Projects Status Report

Hello there, @Muhammad_awais.

It's nice to have you here in the Community. I'm here to help share information about running project reports in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

As of now, you can filter the projects status to All statuses, In progress, Completed, and Canceled. However, you can just run a report for each project and not with all in progress projects listed in one report.

As a workaround, you may export the report to Excel and make the necessary edits from there.

I want to ensure customers like you are having the best possible experience while working with QuickBooks. If you think the option of printing the report with all the in progress projects, I'd appreciate if you could introduce this idea straight to our product engineers/developers.

To send your feedback/product suggestions:

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Select Feedback.

Stay in touch if you have any other concerns about projects, I'll be right here to help you. Wishing you the best!

Projects Status Report

I also need a project status report that can be sorted and filtered by in progress, completed, etc. This report does not seem to exist anywhere. We moved to QBO from desktop and lost the ability to run this report. We've had to create a separate spreadsheet to track this but it is cumbersome and invites errors.

For a company that has a lot of small projects we are at a loss! Please create this type of report ASAP.

Hi Kristn,

I also like the idea of having an option to print projects with statuses like in QuickBooks Desktop. I'm also suggesting this to our product developers using the steps shared by my colleague Angelyn_T.

As a workaround, you can use the Print option of your browser so it captures the Project page in QuickBooks. (Please open the screenshot to see how it looks like.) Or, you can zoom out (press Ctrl and -) the Projects page, and take a screenshot of it. That way, you can print and share it with your colleagues.

Feel free to post again if you have other questions.

Hi JessT,

Thank you for suggesting this to your developers. Unfortunately we have too many open projects at any one time to be able to clearly see a screenshot of them when I zoom out. We would also like to be able to filter by completed projects and there are many, many more of these.

I look forward to this report being added to QBO. It's been a huge pain point for us since we switched from desktop to QBO. To the point where we are considering switching back or using another system. My team reports the project status weekly to the CEO and it's become a manual process with a lot of room for error.

Greetings, Kristn_Kokua.

Allow me to step in for a moment and share some insight regarding this matter.

I'm happy to see that my colleague JessT was able to clarify everything. That being said, I'm also looking forward to when the report will be available for you.

Until then, please let me know how else I can help you succeed with QuickBooks. I've always got your back. Thanks for reaching out, I look forward to hearing from you again.

I'm here to provide some update about the report you need in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Currently, filtering the project status report to All statuses, In Progress, Completed, and Canceled is still not available. It's our priority to provide products and services that suits your business needs. We'll inform you through this thread once we receive product enhancement update about the availability of this feature.

Has QBO been upgraded yet to be able to run a report with the project status? It's a very necessary report.

Thank you for joining the thread, cchilds@brennera.

In QuickBooks, we can run Project Profitability Summary report to print a project report that allows us to see all project statuses.

You can customize the report to show all the statuses of the project in your account. I’ll show you how:

  1. Go to the Reports menu.
  2. Look for the Project Profitability Summary report.
  3. Click the Customize button, and press the Filter dropdown.
  4. Tick the box for Project Status and ensure that it’s set for All.
  5. Click Run report

To print the report, you can click the Print icon beside the export icon on the report window.

Furthermore, here’s an article you can refer to save your customized report in QuickBooks Online: Memorize reports in QuickBooks Online

Let me know if there’s anything else that I can help you with reports. I’m just one post away from assisting you. Stay safe!

Hello,

It is now 2023 and Quickbooks still can't figure out how to have reports only show projects that are in progress. Completed projects do not need to be seen on reports any longer. I would so appreciate this being fixed. I think your customers have been beyond patient!

Thank you!

A year later and the report still doesn't exist.

Intuit made almost $15 billion as of Oct 2023 but apparently that's not enough money (at a 10% growth over 2022) to be able to program a simple report.  This is why competing products are gaining popularity...and at a better price point.

Hello there, @jdharr.

I'll show you how to run a report for in-progress projects only in QuickBooks Online.

You can run a Project Profitability Summary Report. Then, filter it to show only the in-progress projects.

Here's how:

  1. From the left menu, choose Reports.
  2. Enter Project in the search box, then choose Project Profitability Summary Report.
  3. For the Report period, you can select All Dates.
  4. Click the Customize button.
  5. Click the Filter dropdown.
  6. Tick the check box for Project Status.
  7. Choose In progress from the dropdown.
  8. Hit Run report.

For future reference, you can save the report customization. Here is an article for the detailed steps: Memorize reports in QuickBooks Online.

Let me know if you have questions about running reports in QuickBooks Online. I'm always here to help. Have a great day.

This works for this report, but not for all. I need to use a specific report for invoicing every month, which is the Estimates & Progress Summary by Customer. You have to hand pick each Project to be in the report. Why can't it just show you the ones still in progress. That does not make sense. Every month I have to recheck these reports for accuracy before I invoice. The Estimates & Progress by Project does not have remaining amount to be invoiced, so that report won't work.

Thank you,

I appreciate you getting back to this thread, Rhonda. I can see how this function would benefit you in tracking your estimates and project-related data.

I'm here to help you submit your product suggestion to our development team. Also, I'll be providing more information about the Estimates & Progress Invoicing Summary by Project and Estimates & Progress Invoicing Summary by Customer reports.

In the Estimates & Progress Invoicing Summary by Customer report, the Status column can only be enabled and disabled. There's no direct option to display only the in-progress or pending ones.

Meanwhile, filtering the Estimates & Progress Invoicing Summary by Project to show the remaining balance is unavailable. However, you can manually calculate its value by referring to the Total Invoiced AmountTotal Paid, and the % Progress columns.

Please know that every feature recommendation is greatly valued. That said, I recommend sending product feedback to our Product Development Team. Doing so helps them determine what areas or features need to be improved depending on received comments from users.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and select Feedback.
  2. Enter your feature comments and suggestions in the designated field.
  3. Once done, click Next to submit.

If you need to track the status of your request, you can do so by accessing this website: Customer Feedback for QuickBooks Online.

You may also save your report customizations so you can use it later. This way, you can save time organizing your report's data as it automatically memorizes the modifications made.

Should you have more concerns about your reports or need help with other aspects within QuickBooks' system, click the Reply button. I'll be in all hands to assist you.
