QBJ Import creates duplicate accounts

Importing a QBJ to my client's QBES desktop keeps creating duplicate accounts with "DUP" at the end of the account name. I have verified that the account name in my local copy is the same as my client's copy (seeing as I got it from the client in the first place), so why does this happen?

I'd like to share some details and assist you in importing the QBJ file.


Please note that QuickBooks Desktop won't let you create accounts with exactly the same name. The most possible reason why it creates duplicates is that you used the description or account number on your QBJ file instead of the account name.


I suggest you review the QBJ file and update it if needed before importing it. For now, you'll want to delete the duplicate ones. Simply go to the Chart of Accounts, right-click the duplicate, select the Account is inactive checkbox, then Save.
