How do I create a retroactive salary increase paycheck in QuickBooks Desktop?

An employee received a salary increase in November.  I want to create a paycheck to pay the employee retroactive to the beginning of the year.  What is the best way to do this so that taxes are taken out properly?

I think the correct thing to do is to create an exception paycheck (not part of regular payroll), calculate the unpaid wages amount, and then use it to override the salary amount on the check.

Taxes will calculate as normal and won't cause any issues later.
