Quickbooks shuts down when trying to email paystubs or any documents from Quickbooks

I noticed today, 3/19/22, when running payroll that when I try to email (send) a pay-stub to an employee, Quickbooks immediately shuts down.  No error message displayed.. just shuts down.  Worked fine during last payroll a couple of weeks ago and never had this problem in the past.  I did try turning off my firewall and anything else I had running, restarting Quickbooks and still the same error.  I also tried sending other documents via email in both PDF and Excel formats, such as Balance sheets and P&Ls.  All get the same error.. it tries to send for a few seconds, then Quickbooks immediately shuts down.  I'm on Quickbooks Desktop Premier Plus Professional Services edition 2022.  All QB and Payroll updates are current.  Any help would be appreciated.  As another test, I also tried similar features in some other business apps I have sending reports via email and they work fine, so it appears to be isolated to Quickbooks.  Any fixes out there?  Appears to be bug in the send/email feature.

Quickbooks shuts down when trying to email paystubs or any documents from Quickbooks

Hi, @RJC.

I want to ensure you'll be able to email your pay stubs and any other documents from QuickBooks by sharing some additional troubleshooting steps to isolate the issue.

Usually, QuickBooks shuts down immediately with or without an error message when there are issues on the computer itself or by how QuickBooks interacts with your system. Make sure to always update your QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release as it becomes available to ensure you have all the updated components.

To isolate the issue specific to emailing paystubs and other transactions, you can perform the following:

  1. Add QuickBooks Firewall Exceptions
  2. Update Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, and Outlook
  3. Set up again your email service
  4. Disable your virus protection momentarily.
  5. Restart your computer and check if the issue is fixed.

You can also verify and rebuild your data to identify and resolve the commonly known issues within your file.

In case you're getting the same result, I would suggest reaching out to our Support Team for further assistance. This way, a live representative can look into your account securely and run an investigation about this error.

On the other hand, you can get more tips about sending pay stubs from this article: Email pay stubs from QuickBooks Desktop.

Please keep in touch if you need more help with this. I'm determined to get this fixed for you. Have a great weekend!

I tried all of this except rebooting the computer.  Now the email seems to be working fine.  Thank you for your quick reply!

Quickbooks shuts down when trying to email paystubs or any documents from Quickbooks

Thanks for joining this thread, APS37. I appreciate your detailed information.

If QuickBooks has stopped working while using it, there could be several possible causes:

  • Your company name may be too long.
  • You may have corruption on the hard drive.
  • You may have a damaged Windows operating system.
  • You might have a damaged or missing QBQUSER.INI file.
  • Your program files or QuickBooks installation might be damaged.

QuickBooks can also sometimes crash while sending emails. When this occurs, if an error message is encountered, you'll select Send. This ensures Intuit's engineers can review the logs for research.

Initially, you'll want to confirm your books are up-to-date with their latest release.

Here's how:

  1. In the top menu bar, go to Help, then Update QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Click Update Now.
  3. Select Get Updates.
  4. Close and reopen QuickBooks to install your update.

Using the most recent update for your product ensures you have all the updated components.

If you continue receiving the error while using your product's latest release, you can troubleshoot with the QuickBooks Tool Hub. This program helps fix common errors. For the best experience, I recommend using it on a 64-bit Windows 10 computer.

Whether you installed QuickBooks on your computer or host it through Rightworks, Intuit's here to help. Except for certain issues that would require help from Rightworks support. Intuit can help you with anything QuickBooks-specific, from payroll concerns, to performance issues.

You can get in touch with our Customer Care team while using QuickBooks. They'll be able to pull up your account in a secure environment, conduct further research with you, and create an investigation ticket if necessary.

Rightworks will be ready to support you with any hosting, login issues, app setup, adding new versions of QuickBooks, uploading files, or downloading files. You can find detailed steps for contacting them in our QuickBooks cloud hosting powered by Rightworks article.

Please don't hesitate to send a reply if there's any additional questions. Have a great Friday!
