2021 QuickBooks Desktop prints 2 part 1099 NEC forms

I understand how frustrating not to be able to print forms, djamai.

 

Since you've already updated your file with critical fixes, let's ensure to log in as the administrator to print the 1099 forms.

 

If you're logged in as the administrator yet, the same thing happens. I recommend having us call you back so an agent can check and see your file.

 

For us to give you a callback, you'll have to set an appointment. Let me guide you how:

 

  1. From the Help menu, select QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  2. Click Contact Us.
  3. You can enter I'm unable to print 1099 forms as your keywords on the Ask a question field.
  4. Hit Continue.
  5. Select Get a callback.

 

Once it's fixed, you can now continue creating and printing your 1099 forms.

I was able to print the 1096, however the 1099-NEC won't preview or print.  I downloaded the critical fix into 2022 QB Desktop.  No Lock.  It looks like it's sending to printer and nothing happens.  I now missed the mail deadline.  I've jacked with this for 2 hours to update and print.  Rediculous!  This software just got on my bad side!

I had the same problems. Here were steps I took to get my 1099NECs printed correctly:

1) Close QB. Right click and run as administrator.

2) Log in. Help>QB updates>Options tab. Make sure ALL boxes are check, including 2 in the middle of page and all items at the bottom (even if you do not have a payroll subscription, choose payroll too.)

3) Update tab. Make sure 'reset updates' is checked. Make sure all items are checked as well. Update QB. Close QB when complete. 

4) Install QB tool hub and run Program> Print & PDF repair tool.

5) Restart your computer to install updates. Login to QB.

6) Go to file>Printer Setup>Forms>1099

Verify your printer name is correct. Choose align from the right side of screen. Adjust up vertically 6 for Brother Printers, 8 for HP printers. Save.

7) Run 1099 Wizard and verify your mapping is correct for your 1099 accounts. And hopefully, print your 1099 forms. 

This is what worked for me after hours of trying different things. I hope it helps.

Is there a way to make Quickbooks Desktop 2019 print 3 part 1099 NEC forms?  I did perform the Quickbooks Updates including the Critical fixes.  Still printing 2 per page for 1099-NEC.

I recommend contacting our QuickBooks Desktop Team so they can set up your account for printing 3-part 1099s. They can do screen sharing with you and help ensure your account is ready to print the form.

 

Here's how to get in touch with them.

 

  1. Open QuickBooks.
  2. Go to Help, then select QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  3. Select Contact Us.
  4. Give a brief description of your issue, then select Let's talk, and then choose a way to connect.

Hi, I tried this a few times and keep getting STATUS reports as "Nothing new downloaded".  

Is there anything else I can try?

I tried for two days to do the update on my own but finally ended up calling customer supportr 800-446-8848. and they answered right away. 

 

This issue indeed was the update. Here are the steps they walked me through remote access.

 

1. Close QB. Right click on the QB app and run as administrator. (this is very important)

2. Log In. Go to Help >  Update Quickbooks Desktop

3. Click on the Update Now tab and select "Reset Update".  Make sure all update items are checked as well. Click on Get Updates.  Once that completes, Close QB.

4. Restart QB. 

 

Then you should be able to go to File>Printer Forms>1099 NEC and make sure to map vendor payment accounts by selecting NEC Box 1. 

 

That should do you. You can now print 3 to a page. Good luck

This is OUTRAGEOUS!!! Not only can I not print the 1099 forms, but even if I were to get that figured out, I wouldn't be able to print them on the appropriate 3-up that is required! This is why people leave QB! Unbelievable.

You say "In the Fine Alignment pop-up, adjust the Vertical and Horizontal alignment."

Adjust them to WHAT exactly????

 

Am I supposed to keep blowing through 1099 NEC forms until the alignment is correct?? This is seriously THE MOST FRUSTRATING ISSUE right now. Oh ya, next to the fact that MY PAYMENTS STILL DON'T DOWNLOAD CORRECTLY. I am seriously considering dumping Quickbooks. Do I sound pissed off? Good, because I am.

My desktop is updated AGAIN as of this evening. Still only 2 per page. Somebody better figure this mess out.

At this point, I'd recommend contacting our technical supports. This way, we'll be able to look into your account and investigate this printing issue. Here's how;

 

  1. Open QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Go to the Help menu, then select QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  3. Click Contact Us.
  4. Enter "Unable to Print 3-part Form 1099.", then select Let's talk.
  5. Choose a way to connect.

Banditogal, if you're issue is still aligning the data on the forms, I would advise printing your 1099s on plain paper or printing sample data and then seeing how they align with the pre-printed forms. (Lay the plain paper with your numbers on it on top of the pre-printed forms.) If they're not aligned, change the alignment and re-print on plain paper until they are aligned; then print on the pre-printed forms. Hope this helps. I dealt with the update issues for the first week of January. I feel your pain.

As well you should be ticked at this point!  I wasn't able to receive help in a timely matter with this either.  I ended up mailing my forms late and I used the old -misc forms.  Now I have to file amended 1099-NEC to correct everything and they will end up handwritten.  

With the alignment issue, I copied multiple forms to use as 'dummy test sheets'.  I made adjustments to the alignment until it was 'acceptable' then used an actual form.  Hope this helps in the future.  Good luck.  And if you ever get the NEC print error figured out, please share.

I feel the same way!  I am not the fan of QB that I used to be - this is going to cost many of us a great deal of money in fines and penalties that we can't afford.  For printing, I printed a plain page first, then put the printed plain page behind a 3 to a page NEC form and held it up against a window so that I could see the alignment.  My initial alignment was too low, so I hit the up arrow in alignment a few times.  Supposedly, each time you hit the arrow button it adjusts by 1/100th of an inch.  I hit my up arrow 5 times, printed another plain page, compared it to the NEC and it was perfect for me. Best of luck to you and please know that you are not alone in your feelings!  This year end experience was a nightmare!!

This is not solved. It's February 3rd and I still can't get the form to print in 3 parts. I've done all of the updating steps and nothing works. Quickbooks needs to fix this issue immediately. I called customer service and since I don't have the upgraded plan, they will not help me.

Frustrating!!!!!!

This method didn't work for me either.  I bought the forms directly from Intuit because I wanted to be sure it went smoothly and there were no 'last-minute' runs to the store for generic ones.   Then this situation!  Either way they screwed the pooch (or many pooches).  Next year I will not be dealing with this.

To JDrop:  this is the comment in this chain that helped me actually reset the update and be able to print the 3 to a page NEC forms:

 

1.  Close QB. Right click and run as administrator. (important)

2. Log in. Help>Update QB Desktop>Update Now. Make sure ALL boxes are checked off. 

3. Click on  'Reset Updates' > Get Updates.  Once update completes, close and restart QB.

4. Restart your computer to install updates. Login to QB.

 

You now should be able to print 3 to a page. 

Go to file>Printer Forms>1099/1096

Make sure to Map Vendor Payment Account by selecting NEC Box 1. 

 

Don't forget - proper mapping is essential in order for all of this to work! :)

Maybe I have an older version?  I'm using Premier Contractor Edition 2018.

I'm glad you got it to work.  I haven't given up completely.  (yet)

1.  Close QB. Right click and run as administrator. (important)

2. Log in. Help>Update QB Desktop>Update Now. Make sure ALL boxes are checked off. 

3. Click on  'Reset Updates' > Get Updates.  Once update completes, close and restart QB.

4. Restart your computer to install updates. Login to QB.

 

Updates may have defaulted back to the original 1099-Misc mapping. 

Once all set, change all the 1099-Misc accounts to "omit these payments from 1099". After making the changes, you should be able to update the 1099-NEC accounts.

 

You now should be able to print 3 to a page. 

Go to file>Printer Forms>1099/1096

Make sure to Map Vendor Payment Account by selecting NEC Box 1.

For all of you still trying to get 1099s done, go on line to Adam’s Tax Helper. For  $17.99 you can purchase a 1099 software that WILL PRINT the 3 part 1099 NEC!!  You will have to manually enter Payer and recipient info, but you can print the forms as well as the 1096 transmittal form. Not a perfect solution but if you don’t have hundreds to do it is a solution.
