Can I add a subtotal line to an invoice then a discount line to calculate automatically?

I'm new to Quickbook online. I added all my lists/products/services but when I enter in the invoice, it does not show the conversion. What am I missing?

Can I add a subtotal line to an invoice then a discount line to calculate automatically?

Hi there.

Welcome to the Community. Let me help you add a subtotal line associated with a discount from your invoice in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Here's how:

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online account.
  2. Click +New then Invoice.
  3. From there fill in the necessary details.
  4. Select the dropdown arrow in the Product/service column, then click +Add New.
  5. Choose Service then put the name Discount to be added on the line item.
  6. Under the Service Date column, click the Add product or service dropdown then select Subtotal.

Moreover, you can record invoice payments in two ways. To know more about this, I've added this article for your reference: Record Invoice Payments In QuickBooks Online.

Feel free to return to this thread if you have other queries about managing your invoices. We'll be more than happy to assist you again.

Thanks for joining the conversation and doing the steps provided by my colleague above, @Grisp. Let me provide additional information about adding a subtotal line and a discount to your invoice.

When creating an invoice, we can add a subtotal line that calculates all the items or services you've added.  Just click the Add product or service dropdown, and then Add subtotal. Refer to the screenshot below for your visual guide.

On the other hand, adding a discount line to calculate automatically isn't possible in QuickBooks Online. I recognize the convenience of having this functionality in your invoices. Thus, I suggest sending feedback directly to our Product Development team. They can review your suggestion and consider adding it to future updates. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and select Feedback.
  2. Provide your product suggestion.
  3. Click on Next to submit feedback.

To get updates about the status of your feedback, you may visit the Customer Feedback page.

If you want to personalize your sales forms, you may follow the instructions provided in this article: Customize invoices, estimates, and sales receipts in QuickBooks Online.

Let me know in the comments below if you have more questions about managing your invoices or any other QuickBooks-related topics. I'll be here to assist you, @Grisp. Have a good one!
