Can I change the statement end date on a pervious bank reconciliation? I keyed the wrong year for Feb 21 statement end date and finished year before realizing mistake.

QBO allowed all the other months for 2021 to be reconciled because the typo was for a future year (2021 and should have been 2021). I'd love not to have to redo the entire year again if I can avoid it and am hoping there is a way to simply correct the statement end date.

Hi there, ClassActs.

Changing the statement end date on the reconciled account isn't an option. You can either undo previous reconciliations or leave them as it is.

If you want to undo previous reconciliations, you need to manually update the status through the bank register.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Accounting menu, then select Chart of Accounts.
  2. Find the account and click View register
  3. Select the transaction you want to unreconcile.
  4. Review the check column. If the transaction is reconciled, you’ll see an “R.”
  5. Click the box and keep clicking it until the box is blank. This removes the transaction from the reconciliation.
  6. Select Save.
  7. Do this to all reconciled transactions on the period.

Once done, you can now go back to the Accounting menu and reconcile your account with the correct statement date.

If you have an accountant who is also using QuickBooks Online, you can ask them to undo the entire reconciliations for you. That way, you don't have to manually undo transactions from the bank register.

Let me know if you have additional questions about charging the end statement of the reconciled account. I'll be right here to help you.

If I simply leave it will it pose any issues? The month the mistake was made was February 2021 (keyed Feb 22 by mistake). If it won't mess with reconciliation of February 2022 I'm inclined to leave it alone but would love the community feedback. Thanks.

Thanks for getting back to us, ClassActs.

Allow me to share some information with you so that you can reconcile your account accurately.

As mentioned by my colleague above,  you can either undo previous reconciliations or leave the ending date as it is.  You'll have to make sure to select the correct Starting and Ending date in your next reconciliation.

Also, you can check these reconciliation-related articles for additional reference:

Were you able to leave the date as 2022 without problems? I have the same issue. I typed 12/31/22 and should have typed 12/31/21.

Thanks!
