Classic view vs. Modern view onreports

Gouve123,

That's actually exciting news, isn't it?  The information is now all there on the Modern View, but placed differently from where it was on Classic View?  Does it work the way it did when it was Classic?  [I have to do state taxes this week so won't be able to play with QB until after that fun job is done, but I will be looking to see what's up now.]

I don't particularly care HOW the improvements get made or by whom.  As far as I can tell, we just all want the darn thing FIXED.

Lipstick on a pig.  Hahahahahahahahahahahha.....

Thank you for the light moment!

I actually used a "Modern" report do to a GL account analysis. I assume it may work as well for you.

All these unannounced changes do for me is make me think I am losing my marbles. One day the reports are basically "blank" and the options for adding data etc are useless. Now it works for me. Rolling the "update" out slowly (wait for you to get yours!)??

As with many QB changes, this one has me confused. But it did cause me to lose a lot of time last week.

Nice, thanks for playing.

The thread isn't supposed to be about the QBO Cares Team being unable to help.

You just can't accept that though, so I suppose a good old fashion dressing-down is deserved.

The fact that you continue to make it about some "right to yell" is in my opinion, sad.

I am sad for you. My opinion.

Stop talking to me (@ 'ing me) as if I am trying to argue with you about anything.

This is exactly what I meant by being misunderstood. I have continued to try and correct your misunderstanding, which is that I am looking to argue with a forum troll.

I am not.

This was my first mistake, I should never have fed you. A mistake which I am correcting as of now. *unsubscribed* /blacklisted

Also, who is really affected by this now? You? I am so sorry to hear that. I am no longer since the solution that I have put into place for our firm more than compensates us for any future inconveniences caused by enhanced user experiences. A solution which just lets us bill for our time and experience, as it should be.

For the rest of you who actually had to work through this with dozens or hundreds of clients in a filing season.

A Toast; To making it through another year!

Cheers!

Honestly, if you can't find a way to just deal with a poor service provider, and ending the relationship isn't an option, you just charge more.

Make more money from it.

Whining at the part-time employees who just shrug at you and say "that's just how it is" isn't a good look, but based on what I've read, you have far too much time and have spent far too much effort bashing your keyboard here than living your life, or worrying about not being a Karen.

Charge QBO clients more money, and go enjoy some grass.

Whomever said "make more money from it" MUST work for QuickBooks.

I think the gist of many of us here is that we aren't like QBO/Intuit AT ALL. We don't want to become like them. We aren't greedy, money-grubbing, bottom-of-the-barrel, whatever can put a Prada in my hands, kind of people. We aren't the small business owners who think that they can be a business owner AND just miraculously understand accounting, something many of us have spent years learning about and continue to as well, since many of us are bound to CEUs.

This nonsense of charging customers more is exactly why I'm poor; I'm not going to be like the greedy capitalistic monsters that Intuit turned into. You know, it wasn't always like this. Does anyone remember Quicken? I do. I was a little girl, playing office with my mom at her plumbing company, and she asked me to help enter some things. I know how silly that sounds, but it's the truth, I began using Quicken when I was 14, and that was, GULP, 26 years ago. I've done nothing but sing QuickBooks praise over the years. I moved all of my clients from Desktop to Online. I encouraged people to sign up! I mean, I didn't hate them, and I understand business needs to make money because we do live in a capitalistic society where we must earn to survive. Well, record profits? When most of us can't figure out how to put food on the table? I bet these marketing experts got big fat bonuses...

And you are telling us, many of us freelance bookkeepers working at home under stressful circumstances, to just raise prices and our customers will just accept that? Some might. Many might not. And then we have to do that simply because QBO's marketing team decided to change the aesthetics of something that nobody asked for?

No, that's not acceptable. I'm not going to turn into a piece of crap so that Intuit's executives can buy their Teslas and own their lofts in San Francisco. No, and I think it's pretty crappy that this entire platform is geared towards small business owners who rarely have a net profit to begin with...and they just keep raising prices and they have you, another customer, calling us Karens? In an accounting forum? What does that even mean? Sorry to anyone with the name Karen. Jeez. Keep that out of here. We don't need to turn on one another. Leave that for Twiitter, Facebook, and Reddit.

Anyway. I refuse to just accept what I'm given, and I've been playing with Xero and Zoho. Not a huge fan of either, if I'm being honest, but I think that's because trying to import QBO info into theirs is getting all mixed up. I highly recommend those who can, try to go elsewhere. If anyone has any suggestions for a freelance bookkeeper who doesn't have many clients, please share here.

Thanks to everyone contributing to this conversation and NOT turning on each other, name calling, and essentially telling us to suck it up and be like QuickBooks.

@Please_Stop_The_Modern_View , thank you for saying so well what I, and probably a lot of us here, were thinking.  My husband and I used to get our taxes done by the same CPA every year...had done it for 20 years and had inched up from $150/year to $500/year (very simple return, obviously, and this was at least 30 years ago when this happened) and when we went in to sign and pick up the finished return, he handed us a bill for $3000...and it was essentially the same as it had been for several years prior.  We asked why, and the explanation was that there was a major revision in the tax code and he'd had to spend a lot of time learning the new laws, was simply passing along the unbillable "learning" hours to his clients, split up between them, and our share was about $2500.  My husband was an electrician, and he'd gone to the CPA's home numerous times to wire a remodel or an additional shop, boat dock, etc.  He said to the CPA, "so you are charging us what it cost you to deal with the new code?" and the CPA confirmed it.  My husband pointed out that electricians have to keep their license current with continuing education, done on their own time after work, and that the National Electrical Code is revised every 3 years and electricians are responsible for knowing the code and all its changes.  "So by your logic, every time I come out to your place to wire something, I guess I have to charge you at least triple what I have been charging, because you will be paying for my education to keep my job, if I have to pay for your education to keep your job."  The CPA changed the bill back to $500.  Essentially, that is what this suggestion that clients be charged for whatever inconvenience time is necessary to do their otherwise usual work, because of QBO's ill-timed and poorly executed rollout of the Modern View (which I believe happened in January, but didn't hit everyone between the eyes until March when tax season was getting really hot--and of course, as of yesterday, it was still in the way of getting our work done normally with classic view practically taking 3-4 times as long to access).  As you said, it isn't appropriate for your clients to pay extra because QBO did what they did--and so badly.

BTW, I am the one being called Karen.  Not my name, and apologies to any lovely person with the actual lovely name, "Karen", but if he/she saw me, the reaction would probably be laughable.  He/she said I should basically stop banging away on my keyboard and get a life, and that I should read before I write.  I'm likely more than twice that person's age, can still accurately type faster than I can think, and was in college when Ralph Nader (American pioneer in Consumer Protection and Law) was cutting his teeth.  As far as I am concerned, the only two people on earth who were ever entitled to scold me have departed more than 40 years ago, so his/her misspelled, grammatically-incorrect chidings landed on deaf ears and were more a reflection of who he/she is than what I was doing "wrong" in my efforts to get something fixed that was bothering me--and many others, and for which I was paying.  So I, the "internet troll", as I was called, am quite comfortable, having said what I have said online about the problem.

My only two goals in posting on this message board were (1) get QBO to respond, to assist us with getting the Classic View as a default if we wanted it, and (2) to express support for those who are frustrated with the Modern View, to let them know they are not alone feeling like a crazy person because they (and I) can't figure out what on earth has happened to our usual QBO routines.  It was never about anything else.

I hope your anti-greed ethics remain steadfast and that you thrive.

Efficiency is not greed.

If last year, I charged you 30 minutes a month, and this year, because of the extra time it will take to deal with the new layout, it is 45 minutes a month. That is a 50% increase in the bill.

The only difference between this year and last year is who paid for the 15 minutes.

This isn't greed, it's called earning a living?

Why are you trying to villainize billable time by draping stories of actual greed over the top of it?

@Please_Stop_The_Modern_View , If you click back to page 3 of this message board string, you will find that @Gouve123  answers a question from @deathtaxes1 about their migration to some other program, and that they are considering "Net Suite".  Perhaps you could ask them their opinion, although I think they are in a slightly different boat from some users who are unhappy with QBO for a variety of reasons.

21+ year user here in all version.  IN Online, Tying to drill down for expense details from the P&L and couldn't.  After an hour of troubleshooting, I see it's defaulting to "Modern" view.  What the heck.  What's modern about it and how is it "better" when the totals aren't "hot" and you can't drill down to see detail.Yet another of the gazillions of things that pro users HATE about the online product.  "Classic" view had better stay as an option or I'll be taking my OnLine clients back to desktop.  What benefit/improvement is Inuit claiming to give use with "Modern" when it offers zero functionality.  It's only giving me totals I can already see in the P&L.

This isn't an issue of customizing reports. It's a problem that QBO has imposed a Modern view on us the users which now requires several more clicks just to get to the transaction detail we used to see instantly. Several times a day I need to look at the detail in an account to review transactions. I open the account detail and suddenly I am blocked by a "Modern" view interface that shows me nothing. I have to click through the option to show classic view just to get to my own data. This was a real mistake on your developers' part, and if you want to keep modern view as an option, please make it an option, not the default. For a program that is supposed to be helpful to its users, why would you throw in a feature that only serves to slow us down and frustrate us multiple times a day?

Since this isn't a cache issue for me, I want to point out that it is also inconsistent when defaulting to modern view. For example, if I drill into 1 month, I get the modern view, If I am viewing months, side by side and drill into the total, it stays on classic view. I would love to say that submitting a comment or developer note helps, but I have submitted those many times over about 7 years and not a single one has ever come to fruition. This, paired with the nonstop advertisements for more intuit products when I help a company start up has me looking to switch out of QBO. Customizing the reports doesn't help as usually I am drilling into a P&L for analysis and I am not having to consistently review the same line items.

The new modern view is killing us! It was bad enough when you moved the recurring transactions from the individual client to a separate location where I have to search the client again to see the recurring template. It is slowing me down tremendously. Now, when I open the client the side bar is only showing recently viewed clients! I need all my clients to be viewable like it was before. Whatever you are doing is terrible. You are destroying the program. We need to be able to get the classic view back. It was perfect! Why are you messing it up? Are you intentionally trying to get customers to switch to another service? If you are trying to do that then you are going to be very successful.

I agree! This new look is horrible. Whoever is doing this needs to be fired. We DEMAND the classic view back. Hear our voices before it is too late for your company. i cannot work this program anymore. It makes no sense. I just closed it and took the day off.

I hate Modern View as well and much preferred Classic View.  I've noticed this over many years, QuickBooks Online likes to just shift things around for no particular reason.  Modern View is a pain, as is having to click "switch to Classic View" every time I look at anything.

I appreciate you for joining the thread, Janet.

I recognize how you feel about the recent updates. I'd recommend sending a feature request to our Product Development Team. With this, they'll see your suggestion and consider it for the next program update. I'll gladly input the steps below:

  1. Access your QuickBooks Online company.
  2. On the top right-corner, click the Gear icon.
  3. Below the Profile column, select Send Feedback.
  4. Enter a brief description of your feature request.
  5. Once you're ready, press Send.

Moreover, here's an article to help you modify business reports to highlight other aspects of your business in QBO Customize reports in QuickBooks Online.

Please let me know if there's anything else that you'd like me to help you with, Janet. You can post here in the Community space, and rest assured. We got your back and will help you out as soon as possible. Stay safe, and have a nice day!

Please just STOP telling us to give feedback (we do to no avail) and STOP, STOP, STOP telling us how to customize reports.  THAT'S NOT THE PROBLEM.

I have a legitimate question.  I know that you guys are the ones taking the hits and are on the other end of all this frustration, anger and annoyance.  I know you can't do anything about it.  BUT - is anyone from the customer care team letting the developers know the feedback that you're receiving?  Our feedback is falling on deaf ears apparently.

@Kurt_M

EXACTLY what @SandiTh said.  EXACTLY.

WHY won't any of you answer her (and the rest of our) question:  IS ANYONE LISTENING HERE??  Do these endless messages to QBO on this message board get forwarded anywhere?

Have any of you on-staff people noticed that not one single one of your responses has gotten one, single, solitary cheer?  It isn't that we are nasty...we are frustrated and NONE of you is paying attention.  If you are offended, well, that's a good thing if it motivates you to find a solution.  Because clearly, your (and all your compadres in the QBO staff who answer any of these) cheery notes, giving us useless instructions to file our complaints through the channels on the site (gear, etc. etc., etc.) is doing anything but throwing gasoline on the fire.  It doesn't work, and it wastes our time.  Sddervice is what you are expected to provid to US, the paying subscribers, not the other way around.  So far, NONE of us has seen service, which would, by definition, include solving the problem.

This is not about clearing cache or browser compatibility. It is about forcing us to have all of our reports default to this "Modern View" shenanigans. There is absolutely NOTHING helpful in the modern view and everything to hate. This modern view was very obviously NOT developed with anyone having a clue about accounting being involved in the process. I cannot see how the modern view has any benefit to anything or anyone in the accounting world. And then to foist this monstrosity on us during the height of tax return season is utterly unconscionable from a business perspective. You should have held off on rolling this supposed improvement, until July at the earliest.

clearly no need to add another voice saying how horrible modern view is - but has anyone else noticed that the ALL DATES filter is missing .. so if you want to see all transactions in an account you need to also state beginning and ending date.. rather than just say ALL ( I use this a lot).

If only they put a setting in - choose classic as default.. or let us try modern rather than force us to return to classic..

clicks and loading is time!!

The main point is that "modern" is neither thought our or executed with any input from anyone who has actually USED QB. It is sloppy and just outrageous that it is rolled out without a switch to turn it off.

I could not agree more. Modern view is really awful and has a multitude of problems. I can see how it could possibly be beneficial in some very rare instances, but the default should be in Classic view with a button that says "Try Modern View" instead of the opposite. QBO has more pressing issues that the engineers/developers could be working to fix instead of creating new stuff. Such as, can I get the cursor to automatically begin in the top left-hand box for Customer or Vendor when entering a new transaction? Some of us like to zip thru entries by using keyboard shortcuts and tabbing. Having to revert to using the mouse is crazy time-consuming. Can you guys focus on basic website functionality like that instead of major unnecessary changes that almost no one is asking for?

I could not agree with you more!  There are so many functional improvements that could be made that would really improve usability.  How about focusing on making the existing system rock solid before making changes for the sake of making things different.
