This new modern report is absolutely terrible. I loathe it. The old report worked perfectly and was super easy to glance at and see all of your numbers.
I hate this so much I am probably going to switch to another company if they don't address this. It makes using the product miserable.
Agreed. On the attempt to make QBO a platform for novice business owners, the automation and childish changes to the available views have created a nightmare for accounting professionals that have to undo months, if not years of mistakes when frustrated users realize they are out of their depth.
agree 100% please remove modern view its slows us down take so much longer to find the information.
@RCV If you "aim to provide you with the better experience possible with QuickBooks Online", you need a lot of target practice, because you miss the mark entirely. Read the string....what we ALL want, NONE of you have addressed successfully. If you had to actually USE this program, you'd understand. Clearly the programmers don't have to use the dam* thing, either. Every detail of what is wrong with the program, the reports, the timing, and all the idiotic workarounds is laid out simply and to the point throughout the string.
What really, really, really bugs me is that the solution is right in front of you: copy this string to the members of your Executive Board (Intuit), NOT the programmers, to get some useful action. If the Exec Board had any idea how dissatisfied we all are, and how ineffective the programmers are at producing a welcome and efficient QBO that WE PAY FOR, I think there is a good possibility of rattling the right cage to get this fixed.
The Modern View should be an option. To me this is a simple fix. Not complicated.
Instead of implementing meaningless changes to QBO that are universally despised why not do something that would bring applause for a change like preventing people from changing the reconciliation status of a transaction from the account register? I'm not even sure why that was ever a "thing" to start with.
dear QB team:
Please remove modern view.
If not, please allow an optic for us to stay in classic view.
When I drill down on wages on my P and L, the modern view gives the wrong details (missing items and incorrect amounts)! Classic view is correct. I have no idea what is going on!
Simple...programmers pretending to be accountants.
Hi there, @smallbiz.
The specifics of a report can vary based on either the period covered or the accounting approach used. If the reporting period is the same in both reporting views, then we can check the accounting method if this is accrual or Cash.
Furthermore, when you modify your accounting method, the accounts and balances in your reports may appear differently.
Here's how:
If they are still the same, we urge you to contact our support team so they can investigate if bugs are running within your account. Then, they can also check possible remedies once they confirm that this is an issue.
See this step below:
Please know that support hours for Plus, Essentials, Simple Start M-F 6 AM to 6 PM PT and Saturday 6 AM to 3 PM PT Advanced, any time, any day.
I'm only one post away if you need anything else. We want to make sure you can do your tasks with ease. Let me know if you need help with the reporting process in the comment section.
USER EXPERIENCE MATTERS. Someone at Intuit missed the boat on this one. Why on earth would the "modern" and "new" view mode require MORE steps to view a transaction?!?! It's literally harder and less of a clean experience - what is the point of it? I'm very curious to understand what the modern view is supposed to achieve? So I too will join the long list of other extremely disappointed in the modern view and the inability to turn it off by default.
I see no benefit of the Modern view. Please switch back to classic view or give us the option to default to the classic view.
Hello,
I'm new to the thread and it started in March. It is now nearly November, has QBO allowed us to choose a default yet? the modern is without a doubt annoying and not good accounting. A step back.
Thanks.
Hi there, Sean.
I understand the importance of setting your report view on default. Let me share an insight about this feature you want to have in your QuickBooks account.
Currently, the feature to set the view of your reports by default is unavailable. However, I recommend sending a feature request to our Product Development team to help improve your experience with QBO and get this feature considered. You can follow the steps below to navigate in your account.
Also, you can track your request with this link: Customer Feedback for QuickBooks Online.
Additionally, here is an article to help you manage your reports:
Let us know if you have other QuickBooks-related concerns. We'll be here 24/7 to help you. Have a nice day!
They have taken NO steps to reinstate the Classic report as a default, which is disappointing. Their generic response is to send them a message/submit a ticket, however, so many of us have done that and have received no feedback or response. Several of us have attended live meetings/updates and asked, and we receive NO answer on those meetings. The completely ignore the submitted question. They've also made the Classic view more difficult to use as we can no longer expand the columns on the report to see additional information. I don't mean to complain back to you since you're finding it difficult as well, but QB is making no effort to take our complaints seriously. It's embarrassing to be screen sharing with a client and be able to easily access data. The Modern report often "breaks" after it saves or if you drill down and then try to go back to see a transaction (you have to expand all over again if it doesn't break - which is a miracle). It's embarrassing b/c it makes us look incompetent like we can't use the system, and if we've recommended QB, it's embarrassing when it breaks and we have to go back into reports and re-run it all over again.
Please do continue to share your Feedback with QB, but don't expect any response.
We are getting ZERO feedback by doing this. So many of us have done this, encouraged our peers to, and also submitted feedback multiple times. QB is not showing users that they are considering our feedback. The Classic report now has even less functionality, showing users that they are being forced to try to use the Modern report, and before we know it, the Classic option will be gone. Like I have said before, using the Modern report is a waste of time - I do not want to have to expand my data multiple times, I do not want my data collapsed or summarized. I want to be able to refresh my report with dates vs. trying update dates and "Save" the report of which then it pops up and asks if I want to save it as a default report (I DO NOT) which is yet another click. It's embarrassing being on with clients and having them see how much of a waste of time it is to use the Modern report when the classic report presents all data in a quick glance. I can't emphasize enough how it sucks to explain to a client that QB changed the report (that they are used to looking at too when we meet) and to "Bear with me" while I get the data to pull up. When I click on the Classic report, I can no longer expand my column for description, etc. so now I have to go all the way into the transaction instead of being able to expand the description and talk about the transactions displayed. My clients are also not happy that analysis I used to do, takes me longer. They now are paying extra for QB's forced change and it forces my company to eat costs b/c how do we justify that "Well QB changed things, so now it takes longer, so now we are billing you more". Sorry - but that's not ethical.
Please provide an actual response about where all of our Feedback has been going and IF anything we've submitted is being considered OR if QB has decided it doesn't care and that Modern will be "the report of the future" that we will be forced to use while we have clients on QB.
The issue is when you drill down it takes you to the modern report view, which is NOT what any of us prefer. It has NOTHING to do with the cache, etc. The Modern View collapses the data and this is not what we want. It also changes the dates no matter if we try the cache clearing or not. It's a Modern View report issue, not our computers. Return the Classic View, make the modern view an OPTION.
While we can switch back manually to the Classic View, they have not limited what you can do with it. By minimizing what we can do (ie. expand description columns, modify report), they are trying to force the Modern report. It's infuriating. I will not be recommending QB going forward.
I came here to see if there were any solutions to the disastrous modern view. Based on their responses (and lack thereof) it's obvious that Intuit just doesn't care. It's unconsionable to roll out a change like this that makes life harder for the professionals who rely on and pay to use their product on a day to day basis. Very amateurish as well, from a software developer's point of view. You don't roll out changes during critical periods, like tax-time, You do the opposite - you freeze your software! You don't change mission-critical funcitonality without giving an option to make it work exactly the same way it did before your change. You donn't roll out changes without a beta test program. We are looking for an alternative to QuickBooks. But, again, I'm sure they just don't care.
Please give us a way to default to modern or classic view whichever we prefer. Stop forcing us to modern view and making us click "switch to classic view". It is annoying. While you are at it please actually do something when feedback is submitted. While you are at all that can you allow us to default how many days a report shows when it firsts opens instead of defaulting to the last 90 days.

How much feedback is needed before the developers do something!!
It is taking a long time and probably thousands of haters for the modern view!!
replying to the comment from QB that modern view is still a test feature. When testing a test feature - may we suggest adding is as a "try modern view" option.. we'll try it.. and decide. Don't force the trial for people seriously trying to do work ..
Yah right, you will take what they give you and that's that! Why? Because most of your clients (or in cases, employer) are all on QuickBooks, and they know it's likely next to impossible to migrate elsewhere. Are there some other places out there for cloud-based accounting? Sure. Do they make it easy to switch? Nope. They've created a monopoly.
They're raising prices multiple time throughout the year, removing features, and now, guess what, no more Bill Pay through Melio. I have (3) clients left, and this one is the straw. I'm done. I can't wait to share this news with them because they are absolutely not going to pay to pay people when online banking does it for free.
QuickBooks/Intuit, you are a disgusting corporation. Just disgusting. Please share this feedback with no one because you don't care at all what we think or want. Whomever replies to these forums either a) isn't get paid, or b) isn't getting paid enough. It's like asking Walmart employees to stop theft. Yah, sure, okay.
Agree! Modern View sucks. Stop forcing people into something new. We are using this software for work and forcing something on us without allowing us to try it is so shortsighted and not the way to run a business. We will be switching from QB in the next year.
