Hi there, @lorrib825. I'm here to provide updates regarding the new invoice look in QuickBooks Online.
The design team has made enhancements to fit customers' mental models using the invoice form,
This new invoice experience is rolled out for some new QBO users only. If that's not the case, you can switch it back to the old layout anytime. Once you've switched to the old/classic experiences on the invoice, we cannot opt back into the new experiences.
If you mean to switch back to the old layout of your invoice, I've got some steps here that you can follow:
Additionally, you can read this resource to personalize and add specific information to your sales forms: Customize invoices, estimates, and sales receipts in QuickBooks Online.

I don’t like it either. It doesn’t show that for me when I open a new invoice or estimate.
This new style isn’t good. I don’t have the option for old style on it. So that doesn’t work.
Hi @MJ72.
I also get disappointed when a product suddenly changes its user interface's features. These changes may come in testing due to the product engineer's data about feature usage and customer feedback. Your account may be new to QuickBooks Online (QBO). This is why having the option to switch to the Old style is unavailable.
However, if you subscribed to your QBO account a month ago or later, you should be able to see the Old layout option. If this isn't the case, I suggest running QuickBooks on an incognito or private browser to isolate this issue.
Here's how to run incognito or private browsing mode:
Login to QBO from there. If you see the Old layout option from the new invoice form, I suggest clearing your regular browser's cache. The benefit of doing this can help optimize the browser's performance. Alternatively, you can utilize other supported browsers to run QBO.

I hate that every time I get into QBO something has changed. I am a pro advisor and I am telling you, my clients are getting very upset. Do not make changes to QBO to fit one company that disrupt other company's settings and normal way or doing business.
The new estimate, invoices was quite a surprise today! We had customized our invoices, and now when choosing view/editing seeing the new look vs our previous customization.
Do we need to customize again using the new update?
Appreciate feedback!

I's not a convenient time to customize a new layout. If we choose to go back to our old layout, when will we have the option to update?
Thank you!
How does these new payment options on the updated invoice look/work ?
Currently when invoice is sent, customer has option to pay online using qb credit card processing.
It looks like the new payment options charge fees back to customer or is this fees charged to the Company.
Thanks for joining the thread, @ma2364. Allow me to chime in and help you with the new look of invoices in QuickBooks Online.
QuickBooks are releasing a new invoice layout that helps your land jobs and get paid faster. In your case, you can still have the option to update to the new design from the old layout of your invoices.
You’ll automatically be able to use the new layout once the update occurs, with no additional steps required. If you'd like to use the new design, all you have to do is simply open again the sales transaction and click Try the new invoices from the upper right corner of the screen. Then, select again Try new invoice.
For the new payment options, the fees will be charged to the company. Then, you have the option to add PayPal, Venmo, credit cards, and ACH bank transfers to your invoices. Your customers can pay online right from the invoices you send.

yes, I had to switch back to the old version. The new version wasn't even using my customized invoices and sales and even when I went back to edit, it wasn't using my customized invoice. Also, when you save the invoice and want to "receive payment" there isn't a simple button to push.
AND... when I email an invoice that a customer partially paid, the email message shows the total invoice, instead of the balance and customers have been messaging me saying they paid a portion and are scared their payment is lost.
We strongly dislike the new format of invoices and tried to switch to old format we customized but it would generate the same invoice number and keep giving us a duplicate message. We have 4 users creating invoices at the same time and never had an issue before now. I spent 5 hours on the phone and the only solution was to make all users admin which we are not happy about-
The new layout is terrible. It's very clear what QB is doing- they don't want you mailing invoices, they want you emailing invoices, so that your customers will pay online and QBs gets a cut of the credit card fees. I know this because if whomever it was that designed the new layout had bothered to print out an invoice and attempt to mail it, they would see a multitude of issues:
-The "Customer Display Name" is stamped in large letters at the top of the billing section of the invoice. For us, a lot of the time the 'customer display name' is a sub-job under a parent customer and it's usually a rental address location, an apartment number, or a suite number. In the example below, the 'customer display name', which is an address, is in large letters above the actual 'Bill To' address. Both of these addresses show in the envelope window when trying to mail. Guess who doesn't like multiple addresses on a piece of mail? The Post Office.
-What also shows in the envelope window is the invoice details and the custom fields (technician/job name), because they are crammed over on the left-hand side of the invoice, even though there is plenty of room to move them over to the right side of the page.
-On occasion, we invoice a tenant rather than a landlord. On those occasions, we would just change the 'bill to' address on that particular invoice to go to the tenant. However, on the new layout, the 'Bill To' address is fixed and cannot be changed without going in and editing the customer info. I don't want to change the customer info! I want to send this particular bill to a different address.
-Speaking of paying online... you now have to go in on EVERY invoice and turn off credit card payments. If you don't, when you try to print an invoice, it will have 'Ways to Pay' at the bottom, along with all the credit cards shown. Credit card payments are only for emailed invoices and therefore 'Ways to Pay' should only be on email invoices, NOT printed invoices. This was not an issue with the old layout.
-And while we are talking about the old layout, Yes you can switch back to the old layout apparently, however when doing so, you get a message that basically says 'you might as well use the new layout now because you will be forced to use it in the future.'
I hear all your sentiments.
I can also see how convenient it is for you and your business. Currently, this is how the design is configured in QBO. As we value your suggestions, I recommend sending your feedback to our Product Development Team. Here's how to send feedback:
Our product engineers will consider your suggestions, and you can always check the status of your request through this link: QuickBooks Online Customer Feedback.
On the other hand, I agree with you about using invoices for all transactions with multiple payment methods.

The new interface on quickbooks online sucks! WTH, looking at customers, invoices, payments, everything is sooo much more complicated looking!!! Who's terrible idea was this!
how do i go back to the old invoice layout on the mobile app?
Hello there, artydodger44.
Switching from an old invoice layout can be done in a web browser. Thus, doing it in the mobile app is unavailable. To do it, log in to your QBO account in web browser. Then, follow the steps below.
Here are the lists of supported web browsers:

What the hell are quickbooks doing? I can't even search to find a customer anymore. I am having to scroll through them all. These changes are wasting me so much time every day. I used to love QBO for its simplicity and clarity. WHAT ARE YOU DOING QBO? WHY ARE YOU MAKING EVERYTHING MORE COMPLICATED. I could cry. I am so fed up. Why don't you actually ask your bookkeepers and accountants what they want. It certainly isn't this and after 10+ years of using you I shall no longer be recommending you and I will not be alone.
I agree 1000%!! I like things to stay the same. I don't want to see changes that make what I'm used to seeing look strange. This does not help me in any way shape or form. It actually is hindering my tasks since I have to now get used to another platform. I don't understand why QB just can't leave it alone! What's good for someone else might not be good for another. I am completely annoyed and frustrated.
This update is absolutely awful, I hate it and I do not have the option to use the old layout. I will also not work in cognito as it prevents me from being able to use my 3rd party software with QBO. How can I change it back to the way it was?? This update was the worst so far....
I hear your sentiments, Deena. Let me step in and assist you in switching your invoice layout back to the original one in QuickBooks Online (QBO).
I understand if the new invoice layout update has raised some concerns for you. The product development team has made enhancements to help you get paid faster, land jobs, and keep the work progressing. If you prefer the old interface, please refer to the steps below on how to switch back.

As stated in my post, I do not have that option! There is no "old layout" when I open the tiny little useless invoice form.
Hello, @deena-mahoney. I completely share your sentiment about changes to the platform. Adjusting to a new platform can be challenging, especially when you were comfortable with the previous layout.
This missing Old layout option can be a result of too much accumulated historical data. Whenever you visit a website, it saves some information from the web page in its cache and cookies. These files allow the websites you visit most often to load faster. I recommend clearing them so you can access QuickBooks with a clean slate. You can also use a different supported one.
If you're still unable to switch it, I recommend contacting our Customer Care Support team. They can investigate further and raise a ticket to our engineering team if necessary.
Here's how to reach them:
You can check out these resources on how to increase your QBO experience:
Once your customer makes a payment for an invoice, record it in QuickBooks to mark it as paid. You may also want to create new form styles that suit your business needs.
Keep me posted if you have any other concerns about creating invoices. I'm always here to help. Have a great day ahead!
AGREED. I hate the new look in the invoice and I really hate the modern look on reports. Make it an option for those that want to keep the classic look permanently!!
