Export to Excel Failure

I'm not sure why Intuit hasn't fixed this in over a year.

I noticed it was still broken a couple of months ago.  So I investigated the issue and found several issues with the template.   I fixed them and tested the fix in about two hours.  It was easy enough.

I posted the fix on our site here: Summarize Payroll Data In Excel « Big Red Consulting

How do we know you download link is legit and not some kind of virus or whatever else it could be?

RE: How do we know you download link is legit and not some kind of virus or whatever else it could be?

Good question! It does pay to be safe.

I suppose, though, the same as when you download other things from the internet.  As far as a virus, your virus checker will warn you if there is one (there isn't).  As far as the possibility that the excel file might be something else, you'll know when you try to use it and see that it isn't something else.

@Brannon,

Please confirm you downloaded the fix posted by @BigRedConsulting and this is what fixed the pivot table error. I'm skeptical...

Thanks in advance.

Please confirm you're suggesting that the fix as promoted by QB user -- read: not an Intuit paid technician -- @BigRedConsulting is indeed what Intuit is advocating users employ to fix the pivot table debacle.

Hi, Melana.

We're receiving reports that other users are getting this issue as well. We would like to inform you that this has already been escalated to our Payroll Team. While they do, I would advise you to reach out to our Payroll Specialists.

This way our engineers can add your account information to the list of affected users and attach your case to the INV-24874. Any progress will be communicated via email.

Here's how to reach us:

  1. Within your QuickBooks Desktop, click Help at the top menu bar.
  2. Click Contact Us.
  3. To route you to the correct support expert, we need to know what type of question you have. Give a brief description of your issue and click Continue.
  4. We’ll provide you a few options. You choose which one is best for you.

I'll pass along the issues you have to the appropriate channels so you're able to reach a point of resolution as quickly as possible. However, as soon as an update is received, I will be happy to update this thread and let you know so that you can get back to business.

In the meantime, you can run the report from previous quarters and when asked to update select "Yes". This way, you can pull all the data correctly. If that does not work clean install of QuickBooks and Excel are possible fixes.

You may find this article interesting: Excel-based payroll reports.

Please extend your patience while we're working for the permanent fix. Don't hesitate to drop me a line if you have other payroll reports concerns in QuickBooks. Have a good one.

I'm not sure if you saw my reply, but I was skeptical too.  I downloaded it and followed the directions.  Everything seems to be working as it should.  Intuit should be ashamed of themselves!!  You pay all this money and QuickBooks doesn't even run properly.  I wish I had a better alternative because their customer service sucks.

Yes, what was over a year ago. Many promises were made that the issue would be fixes ASAP.  It was not.  It just took a couple of hours to fix the workbook.  So, ASAP should be measured in hours: not months and not years.

@BigRedConsulting  You guys are fabulous!  Love your products.  We are just now having this problem on one of our computers.  It started with trying to run a 1099 report a couple of days ago and now we can't export anything to Excel on that computer from any client or version of QB.

Good evening, @michealmarquardt.

I did some research and did find that there's an investigation that is in progress as of April 1, 2020. We have reported this issue and are investigating what may be causing this.

For now, there's a workaround where you can run the report from previous quarters, and then when asked to update select "Yes" and it's able to pull all the data correctly.

To be added to the list of affected users, you can contact support. Once you've been added to the list, you'll receive via email updates on this issue and when it will be resolved.

I'm just a comment or post away if you have any other questions. Have a safe and productive rest of your week!

That's what Intuit said a year and a half ago.  It wasn't true then, either,

Yes, it's been open for more than a year.  Given that, no one is really working on it as the fix only took me about 2 hours.

Hey @BigRedConsulting,

Thanks for the template, this corrected the issues as you described. I wanted to ask a follow up- I have a client on the latest Quickbooks Premier Contractor Edition 2020, alongside Microsoft Office 365 (2019ish), on a fresh install of Windows 10 1909 fully updated. This was all downloaded and installed this past week. When using the template, it seems that the Excel window opens and shows a status in the lower right hand corner of "Creating Temporary Backup." and it just sits there. It seems that when we click on the Excel window, sometimes we'll get a not responding message and then it pops up. I can't seem to figure out why bringing this window into focus would affect this. If we don't touch the window it seems to come up in several minutes on 8th Gen i7, top tier m.2 NVMe Solid State Drive computers w/16GB of RAM. It loaded using the stock template and Office 2010 in around 20 seconds. Have you seen this in the wild and could point us in the right direction? Thanks again for the template, it's a lifesaver.

Thanks,

John@LCS

Thanks for sharing detailed information about your concern, @LakeCookSolutions.

Normally, the prompt will appear on the taskbar once an Excel template is used.

To further investigate the root cause of the issue as to why creating temporary backup appears, and to end this process, I recommend contacting our Customer Care team. They have tools like screen-sharing that will help check the root cause and find a permanent solution to this issue.

Here's how to contact them:

  1. Open QuickBooks.
  2. Go to Help, then QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  3. Choose Contact Us.
  4. Give a brief description of your issue, then hit Continue.
  5. Pick how you want to get contacted.

As always, you can visit our QuickBooks Community help website if you need tips and related articles in the future.

If there's anything else you need, let me know by adding a comment. I'm here to help. Have a great day!

Hi @MirriamM ,

Thanks for replying. Am I understanding you correctly- are you suggesting that I contact Intuit Level 1 Support and explain to them how I replaced a default Microsoft Excel template inside of the Quickbooks folder with a version that I obtained from a user on the Quickbooks Community Forums on the internet, and how I expect them to troubleshoot a 3rd party solution? I feel like in any other support venue I would be told that is not supported, or they would insist in uninstalling and reinstalling Quickbooks, which I've already done. Reinstallation presumably would also remove the fixed template and restore the failing template that Intuit is still shipping in Quickbooks 2020, some almost 2 years after a Microsoft Office update broke it. Let me know if I've gotten that correctly, I appreciate the assistance.

Thanks,

John@LCS
