To verify my understanding, which transaction report are you working with? The reason I'm asking is because QuickBooks has various transaction-based reports, some of which function differently. Once I have this information, I'll be able to do further research on my end.
As ShyMae mentioned, for the time being, you can check the report's customization settings to see if a certain filter may be preventing your final balance from displaying. Reports can be customized by clicking your Customize option.
I've also included a couple additional troubleshooting processes which I'd recommend trying for the time being:

I started with the Trial Balance, then drilled down to an account. In modern view, the opening balance is 0 regardless of which date period I select. The final balance as shown on the Trial balance is not given. That is in the default modern mode. It does not matter how I sort or filter, the result is the same.
However, toggling to classic view provides all that basic information.
What I need is the opening balance, changes and final balance of a balance sheet account (prepaids, in this case) prepaid accounts for the prior quarter. The prepaids are grouped under a parent account, so to see them all on one sheet would be great. This was a breeze in desktop.
