Has anyone noticed that there is an automatic $0.00 on the first line of invoices even though you just want to describe the job? And you can't delete the $0.

Why does QBO add to my invoices without my permission?  Notice that you cannot get rid of the $0.00 on the first line.  If you delete it, QBO will add it again!

Good day, @zahler1023. I understand the importance of generating accurate invoices appropriate for your business. Don't worry. I'm here to provide you with a resolution.

If you're referring to the Amount column showing 0.00, this is a default setup in QuickBooks Online when creating an invoice. In this case, we only want to add the job details under the Description. Let's make sure to leave the Product/Service column empty. Clear the QTY(quantity), Rate column as well. As a result, only the job description will appear on your printed invoices.

Additionally, you can always modify the details on your invoices and create a template for future convenience. Here's an article for reference: Customizing Invoices Within QuickBooks Online.

In receiving customer payments in the future, you can refer to this article: Record invoice payments in QuickBooks Online.

This method for removing the $0.00 Amount described in this reply no longer works in the new layout that everyone is being forced to use. The $0.00 makes the estimates/invoices look terrible!

I feel your pain! It was never that way until they"updated" QBO.

I print to PDF then edit the $0.00 out as a work-around. You can't skip a line either to separate the 1st line description from your actual products and services. There's a work-around for that also but requires a good PDF editor.

We hear your concerns about this matter, Jackson and Dave. Let me share information about invoices and estimates on the New interface in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

When creating invoices and estimates in QBO using the New layout, the system automatically generates $0 on the Amount column when there's no value added. This functionality works as designed on the latest software update.

Thus, I recommend sending product feedback to our Product Engineers. This way, the feature to remove the $0 on invoices and estimates without a value will be considered in future updates. The QuickBooks team is always open to improving the product for the benefit of the users.

Here's how to reach them out using your QBO account:

  1. Log in with your QBO account.
  2. On the Gear ⚙ icon, click Feedback.
  3. Enter your product comments and suggestions, then select Next to submit.

Also, I've added these articles to help you maximize your experience with your invoices and estimates in QBO:

Feel free to reply to this thread if you have additional concerns regarding your invoices or estimates. We'll make sure you're taken care of.

The latest software update sucks. I can't believe how bad the new estimates and invoices look.

At least QBO isn't getting more expensive as it loses functionality! Oh wait...

The solution I was given was to upgrade my subscription to be able to "customize" invoices. Those zeros aren't going away anytime soon.
