Thanks for choosing QuickBooks Online in tracking your business transactions, jnjhomesoffice-g. I recognize how important it is to link your estimate to a project. I'm here to help you with that.

We can add your existing estimate to a project by changing the customer's name to the project name. I'll show you how:

  1. Go to the Sales menu and then select Customers.
  2. Find the customer, then click the name.
  3. Locate and open the estimate.
  4. On the Customer field, select the project name.
  5. Once done, click on Save and close.

You can find the estimate by going to the Transactions tab on the Project page.

Hi alan19,

Greetings and thank you for joining the conversation. Allow me to share insights about estimates within projects.

An estimate is a transaction that doesn't have a financial impact on your books. Therefore, adding estimates in a project doesn't result in any costs or income being recorded for the project.

I'm also including this article for your additional reference: Create and manage projects in QuickBooks Online.

Feel free to get in touch if you have other questions about ng estimates. I'm here to support you with your accounting needs. Take care and have a great day!

Thank you for your quick response.

I comprehend that.

What I'm inquiring about is the possibility of transferring a detailed estimate I've already generated external to projects, into my project section.

This would enable me to modify the "your cost" and "markup" columns, which currently don't appear in the estimate I created outside of the project segment.

Could you guide me on how to display these columns within an existing estimate that was crafted in QuickBooks Online but not under the projects feature?

Hello! Can I convert an estimate to a project? I need to add expenses, etc to project but find I have to re enter the estimate info as project

I appreciate you for clarifying your concern, Alan19.

Moving your existing estimates to the project to modify the cost and markup columns is unavailable in QuickBooks Online.

I understand the importance of having this functionality in the program. I encourage you to submit feedback to enhance the features of QuickBooks Online. Your request helps us improve everyone's overall experience.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear menu and select Feedback.
  2. Type your feature request in the description box.
  3. Once done, click Next.

If you'd like to transfer the transactions, I recommend changing the customer's name to the project name:

  1. Go to the Sales menu and select Customers.
  2. Find the customer and click it.
  3. Locate and open the estimate.
  4. In the Customer field, select the project name.
  5. Click Save and close.

Once done, open the Transactions tab on the Project page to view the estimates.

Moreover, make sure to convert that estimate directly into an invoice. Doing so ensures the transactions are linked and helps ensure your books are accurate.

I'm here to help you with any questions or concerns you may have about managing your projects and estimates in QuickBooks. We're always here to assist.
