When making a budget in QuickBooks Online (QBO), the system will create the budget accounts list directly from your chart of accounts. To change and match the accounts of your budget on your QBO account from the Excel-based one that works for your budget, you'll have to add them to your chart of accounts before creating the budget. When creating my budget in QB online, I am unable to add budget amounts in a specific account because it does not appear on the budget input document.
There are a couple of reasons why an account would not show up when creating a budget in QuickBooks Online, tdiamond22. Let's walk through some troubleshooting steps to help you include the account you're looking for in your budget.
Before we dig deeper, can you tell us what type of account is missing? I'm asking this because the list of accounts is dependent on the type of budget you're creating.
For example, income and expense accounts will show up if you select Profit and Loss for Budget type. On the other hand, assets, payables, and liabilities will be listed if you're working on a Balance Sheet type of budget.
Next, make sure the account is not made inactive in your Chart of Accounts. Here's how:
