I appreciate you sharing your concern in this forum, @norma.
I'm pleased to discuss some insights about the initial balance presented on your balance sheets.
In QuickBooks Online, you can run a Balance Sheet report to have a financial snapshot of your company. It's a cumulative report that carries the initial balance.
It means that the opening balance is part of the default. With this, it isn't possible to delete this information and only display the data recorded in the current period.
You might want to review this material for more information about this report: Run a Balance Sheet report in QuickBooks Online.
On the other hand, customizing this report will help you display specific information like accounts or customers and find particular details in the right place by layout formatting.
Don't hesitate to update us in the thread if you have additional questions regarding balance sheet reports or other related concerns in QuickBooks Online. We're always here to lend a hand.
Disclaimer: Please be reminded that I'm using a translator tool to help understand and provide the information above in Spanish.

Your Retained Earnings account shows the total of a company's income and expenses from all previous years. When a new fiscal year begins, QuickBooks automatically adds your net income from the previous fiscal year to the Balance Sheet as Retained Earnings.
Your Retained Earnings account is a rollover of all previous fiscal years. For this reason, you can't select Retained Earnings from the Balance Sheet to view details.
QuickBooks automatically and electronically swaps funds from your net income or loss into the account and doesn't record any visible transactions for it.
I can certainly understand how an ability to obtain an income statement without cumulative balances could be useful and have submitted a suggestion about it as of today.
