If I follow this in simple start, do I have to buy another subscription or can I use the old one? It doesn't seem to get a option for that. Assume I'm slow...

If you're billed annually, you will receive a refund for the remaining months and if the account is within 60 days of the purchase date. If you request a refund during that period, you are eligible under our satisfaction guarantee, you can check with our Care Support team if you're eligible with these terms. You can also explore this article for a deeper understanding of how refund works: Request a refund for your QuickBooks product.
Regarding your question about subscription status, you've mentioned that you're likely to lose your year subscription, once your QuickBooks account is cancelled, you can still log in to your account, but you will have only view access for one year from the date of cancellation. After that, your account will be removed by QuickBooks.
