How can I delete the company, clear all data and start the importation process again?

Welcome to the Community space! 

 

I've got the steps to help you delete your company data and start afresh.  

 

Beforehand, please note that we can purge our company data if we're: 
 

  1. New customers or if our books are less than 60 days old. 
  2. Using Essential, Plus, and Advanced. 

 

Before you start, be sure you want to delete everything. Watch out for the following:

 

  • If you have banks or third-party apps connected, purging your company can permanently damage these connections.
  • This process doesn't cancel your QuickBooks or Payroll subscriptions. However, it completely clears out your books. You'll need to re-enter any employee or historical info you want to keep.

 

To delete your company file with books less than 60 days old, perform the following: 
 

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online account as an admin. 
  2. Once you're signed in, open this link. Alternatively, you can go to the following web address: https://app.qbo.intuit.com/app/purgecompany
  3. To confirm you want to delete your company data, enter Yes, then select OK.
  4. Select your industry from the dropdown menu.
  5. Choose Create accounts based on my industry
  6. Don't select Create an empty chart of accounts unless you've checked with your accountant first.
  7. Select Wipe data

Once done, you can start your books from scratch.

 

However, when subscribed to Simple Start, and if books are 60 days old or older, we'll need to cancel the current QuickBooks Online company or delete one by one and start a new one. 

 

Here's how: 
 

  1. Follow these steps to cancel your account. If you have payroll, cancel your payroll subscription too.


When you cancel QuickBooks, it doesn't delete your data. You'll have read-only access to your company data for one year. To permanently delete your canceled company, visit this article:

To start a new company after the cancellation, we have to: 
 

  1. Sign up for QuickBooks Online.
  2. Enter your user ID and password. You can use the same user ID and password as before.
  3. Optional: If your previous company had payroll, add Payroll in Step 2 of the sign-up process.

If I follow this in simple start, do I have to buy another subscription or can I use the old one?  It doesn't seem to get a option for that.  Assume I'm slow...

As I know you can't purge QBO Simple Start. Cancel your account and sign up for a new one.

Thanks. I'm figuring that out. Interestingly the QB support people didn't know that, but it is buried in the documentation somewhere. I found it just after I posted the question. How does the money get handled?  Do I lose my year subscription or what?

Hi @Kevin at VTC. Chrea is correct, about the ability to purging QuickBooks Online account.

 

If you're billed annually, you will receive a refund for the remaining months and if the account is within 60 days of the purchase date. If you request a refund during that period, you are eligible under our satisfaction guarantee, you can check with our Care Support team if you're eligible with these terms. Regarding your question about subscription status, you've mentioned that you're likely to lose your year subscription, once your QuickBooks account is cancelled, you can still log in to your account, but you will have only view access for one year from the date of cancellation. After that, your account will be removed by QuickBooks.

Thank you.   It would be nice if we could purge data on QBO, if just for those first 60 days. My mess is a function of the learning curve.
