How can i get the printed invoice to use decimal hours instead of hours and minutes?

Thanks for becoming part of the Community, mark-suchecki.

I can certainly understand how an ability to print invoices with decimal hours instead of the currenty display could be useful and have submitted a suggestion about it as of today.

You can also submit your own feature requests while signed in.

Here's how:

  1. Use the Gear icon, then go to Feedback.
  2. Enter your suggestion(s) in the Have feedback? window.
  3. If necessary, attach a file with your Camera icon.
  4. Select Next.

Your feedback's definitely valuable to Intuit. It will be reviewed by our Product Development team and considered in future updates. You can stay up-to-date with the latest news about your product by reviewing Intuit's Product Updates webpage.

You also have the option of checking our QuickBooks App Store for apps which may be able to help you achieve what you're looking to accomplish.

I'll be here to help if there's any additional questions. Have an awesome Thursday!

How can i get the printed invoice to use decimal hours instead of hours and minutes?

ZackE, your response is unhelpful and what I and many others find frustrating about Quick Books.  QB has been asked about this issue for at least three years and the Admin response is always something along the lines of "I understand how this feature would be useful but it is not available at this time.  I will submit your suggestion to our Development team."  Here is an actual post from 2020:

"February 29, 2020 06:50 PM

Hello there, rlinton.

Currently, the option to change the time format isn't available in QuickBooks Online. Rest assured, I'll take note of this idea and share it with our developers. This suggestion will be analyzed by our Development team and may be added as one of QuickBooks Online new features."

It seems it would be a simple coding assignment for a junior programer to allow invoices to be printed with decimal hours instead of hours and minutes.  Particularly because that is the way invoices were done on QuickBooks before we were forced onto QBOnline.  I've seen this request multiple times on the QB Support page.  It appears QB has no intention of taking our suggestions and implementing them.

I'm echoing this urgent need! Our government client is requiring this for accuracy's sake. Right now their invoice shows HH:MM entries that do not multiply out correctly to the total in the right column - whereas, a decimal time entry DOES multiply out correct to the total in the right column. We are quite literally submitting inaccurate invoices due to this issue - which QB has within their power to fix.

Thanks for joining us here, LawDog1.

I can see that a similar question about time format in invoices was also asked in a separate thread. Let me share this link so you can read the response form one of the members of the QuickBooks Team: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/other-questions/re-time-reflected-on-invoices/01/1...

Nope. Still waiting on resolution. Until it gets resolved I still have to use QB Desktop.

How can i get the printed invoice to use decimal hours instead of hours and minutes?

Hi, Jody.

You can now easily display hours in decimal format on printed invoices instead of hours and minutes. Please let me fill you in on the update.

To get started, you need to create or edit an invoice in QuickBooks Online:

  1. Go to the Sales menu and click on Invoices.
  2. Either create a new invoice by clicking New Invoice or edit an existing one from the list.
  3. In the Quantity column on the invoice line item, enter the hours in decimal format (for example, 1.5 for one and a half hours). This method ensures that the decimal point is clearly shown on the invoice.
  4. The system will automatically calculate the total based on your rate.
  5. Before finalizing, click on the Print or Preview button at the bottom of the invoice creation/edit screen to ensure that your hours appear correctly with the decimal format.

The preview will show you exactly how the printed invoice will look, including the visibility of the decimal points. If everything looks good, you can now print or send the invoice:

On the other hand, if this is not the case after replicating, and the decimal point still didn't apply, let's perform some browser troubleshooting to see if the issue is related to cached data.

  1. Use an Incognito Window: Try logging into your QuickBooks account in an incognito window to avoid browser-specific issues.
    - Google Chrome: Press Ctrl + Shift + N
    - Mozilla Firefox and Microsoft Edge: Press Ctrl + Shift + P
    - Safari: Press Command + Shift + N
  2. Clear Cache and Cookies: If accessing QuickBooks through the incognito window works, clear your browser’s cache and cookies. This often resolves loading and formatting issues and enhances browser performance.
  3. Switch Browsers: If the issue persists, try using a different supported browser, as your current browser may have a temporary compatibility issue with QuickBooks.

I'd also like to share this comprehensive guide: Customize invoices, estimates, and sales receipts in QuickBooks Online. It's a fantastic reference that details how to integrate various components into your sales forms, allowing you to personalize them to your business style.
