How can I see old Journal entries?

You can run your Journal reports to see your saved journal entries in QB Online.

To do that, just go to Reports at the left navigation and then search for Journal.

How can I see old Journal entries?

Once I am in the "Search your transactions" page, I can't get it to filter by amount. Before the update I could type in an amount and a list of Journal entries with dates would come up for me to see. The new version shows "We couldn't find transactions that match your search. Expand your search and try again." when I put an actual amount up in the amount box at the top. How can I see Journal Entries by a specific amount?

How can I see old Journal entries?

Good day, DixieOlson. I'm here to help with your concerns about searching for a transaction.

I tried looking for a journal entry by a particular amount using the updated Search feature in QuickBooks Online. I was able to locate the journal entry, indicating the new Search is working as expected.

There's a chance the system was unable to locate the journal entry due to a browser problem. Technical issues like cached files or bugs in your browser can sometimes prevent pages and data from loading fully in QuickBooks Online.

Here are a few troubleshooting tips that may help fix various browser-related problems when using QuickBooks Online:

  •  Clear your browser cache and cookies - This removes any outdated files or data that could be causing display issues.
  • Try a different web browser - See if the problem persists in a different browser like Chrome, Firefox, etc. This helps isolate browser-specific problems.
  • Ensure your browser is updated to the latest version - Outdated browsers can sometimes cause display glitches.
  • Disable browser extensions/addons - These can sometimes interfere with page loading.
  • Try in incognito/private browsing mode - This eliminates any custom settings as a factor.

Aside from that, you can run the Journal report. Then, apply a couple of filters to find the journal entry based on the amount. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Reports menu and type in Journal in the Search bar.
  2. Click Filter. Then proceed to the first line and select Transaction type under FilterEquals under Operation, then Journal Entry under Value.
  3. Click Add Condition and use Debit or Credit under FilterEquals under Operation, and type in the amount of the journal entry in the Value field.

In addition to the steps above, here are a couple of helpful articles for more guidance on recording journal entries in QuickBooks Online:

Just in case you can't still see the journal entry, I would recommend reaching out to our phone or chat support teams. They can double-check on this to investigate further why you're unable to search for the journal entry.

Here is an article with details on how to reach a support representative by phone or start a chat session: QuickBooks Online Support.

How can I see old Journal entries?

I worked through the steps you suggested. I downloaded Firefox. The search did not work. I tried finding a journal entry by amount in Incognito in Chrome. It didn't work.

The search bar under "Search Your Transactions" (from the picture in your reply) does not show up in any of the web browsers I tried with QuickBooks online. I have been putting the amount in the amount box.

In the second screenshot of your reply there is a green button with "add condition". I do not have one of those when I am in the Journal section. When I put an amount in the value box, it says "Something went wrong on our end."

The know the Journal Entry amounts I am looking up exist. The are reoccurring monthly entries that I can see in the banking transactions section.

I work with multiple clients. Not all of them have been switched to the new version. I can still easily look up JE's by amount in the old format. I have attached a snip of an old version that does work for me.

I am frustrated that a feature that has worked so easily for me in the past is gone, and the replacement is difficult to get to and won't work for me.

Thank you for any help you can suggest,

Dixie Olson
