How do I access my inventory items?

I migrated my desktop company files to online.  The report shows my "items" have been transferred.  Now I can not access them in my online account.

Make sure you have QBO Plus or Advanced to manage inventories.

How do I access my inventory items?

Hi there, RSONEILL.

I'm here to help you access your newly migrated inventory items in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

If you've successfully migrated your items to QBO, you can access them by heading to the Products and Services page. I'll guide you how.

  1. On the left navigation panel, hover your cursor on Sales.
  2. Select Products and Services.

Once you're there, you'll see your items. Just note that QBO doesn't use the term items anymore. Instead, they are referred to as Products and Services.

If you still can't see them, make sure you've turned on inventory tracking in QBO before migrating. If you weren't able to, migrate your company file again. This time, ensure that you've turned on inventory in your QBO account.

If the issue persists, check your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) version. Inventory data will not be converted if the QBDT version is for Windows 2015 or earlier.

Here's an article for more info on how QBO accounts for inventory: Move your inventory from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.

For future reference, check this guide out on using price rules: Set price rules in QuickBooks Online.

Please reach out if you have further questions about accessing inventory items in QBO. I'm just one post away. Keep safe!

How do I access my inventory items?

Thank you AnneMariee,

I did all you mentioned, my products are just not there.  The strange thing is the migration report does show the items.  See the report file attached, it shows 13968 items migrated.  All the inventory tracking boxes were and are turned on.  Should I try again?

Thank you for coming back, RSONEILL.

Yes, you can try again, and this should overwrite the previously migrated data of the entire company file. However, if it's the same thing, you can contact our QBO Support team so they can investigate this further.

Let me know if you have other questions in mind. Take care and have a good one!

@RSONEILL

Which QB Desktop year version do you have?

How do I access my inventory items?

I purchased it some time between Dec 2022 and spring of 2023. So I'm thinking 2022 or 2023?  It cost about $1200 including payroll (if that helps).  Sorry I'm not specific but I'm away from the shop at the moment.

Thanks again, Bobby O'

Most likely you have QB Desktop 2023. Try opening the sample file with inventory in your QB Desktop and converting it to QB Online to isolate the problem.

  3. Select Open a sample file.
  4. Choose a sample type of business or industry.
  5. Click Yes to confirm that you want to open a sample company file.
