I am using QBO Simple start. Somehow an expense transaction was assigned to Customer A. I want the transaction assigned to Customer B. In this version you can not see the customer anywhere on the expense screen. Occasionally you can change the payee and it will move the transaction however that is not working today. You can see Company B in the payee fields of the expense, when you run the profitability by customer the transaction is assigned to Customer A.
I have used the Accounting Tools under the accountant log in to reclassify the transaction. This screen will show the customer/vendor as Company B.
Hello there, VincentOH.
I want to ensure that I can offer the best answer to your concern. But I need more information about what you're going through.
I'd like to ask for a screenshot of your expense screen and profitability by customer report. This is to check any reported issues and ensure we can provide the appropriate resolution.
I'd appreciate any information you can share. I'm also looking forward to your reply and working with you again.
Thanks for your immediate and detailed response, VincentOH. This issue with a mismatch customer assigned to an expense in QuickBooks Online (QBO) is likely due to the browser, so let's work together to troubleshoot and resolve it.
Start by pulling up your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account using a private browser (incognito). Here's how:
Once signed in, run the Profit and Loss report and reclassify the transaction using the accountant tool.
If the customer names match, return to your default browser and clear its cache. After that, log out and then log back into your account. This will refresh the system and remove older data that causes viewing and performance issues.
However, if this matter continues, I'd recommend using other supported browsers.
Also, you can access a variety of sales and expense reports to track your business finances. For guidance on customizing, printing, emailing, or exporting any of them, please see this article: Run reports in QuickBooks Online.
In case you need further assistance fixing your data and managing expense transactions, please let me know in the Reply section below. I'll circle back to help you further.
Why does everyone assume this is a browser issue?
Where can we look at the data that pulls for each of these areas of the application? I spent 1.5 hours on the phone w/ support and they say that it is because the report is being ran by Class. This is not a feature in Simple start so I don't see how it is related.
Hello, VincentOH. I understand how frustrating it can be to encounter issues even after following the troubleshooting steps provided by my colleagues. It can certainly be frustrating when things don't work as expected.
Let me explain the difference between Profit and loss and Reclassify Transactions in QBO. The Profit and Loss report is a financial statement that provides a comprehensive overview of a company's revenues and expenses over a specific period, typically a month, quarter, or year. The report is divided into two main sections: income and expenses. The income section lists all the sources of revenue generated by the company, such as sales, services rendered, and interest earned. The expense section, on the other hand, lists all the costs incurred by the company, including salaries, rent, utilities, and other operational expenses.
On the other hand, the Reclassify Transactions report is a tool in QuickBooks Online that allows users to move transactions from one account to another. This tool is useful when a user mistakenly assigned a transaction to the wrong account or needs to reorganize the accounts for better reporting. The report shows all the reclassified transactions, the original account they were assigned to, and the new account they were moved to.

AileneA,
Did you read my original comment? The transaction is showing on the profitability report under the wrong customer. I have tried multiple times to assign this to a different customer. It is stuck with the wrong customer. The reason for me brining up the reclarification screen is ONLY because the customer is correct on this screen. How can i assign this transaction to the correct customer?

JessT,
As I mentioned above I have called support and they are convinced that the issue is related the "Class" configuration that I do not have access to change. They are no longer looking into the issue. Generally I have better luck here getting an answer however I am stuck with a data / platform issue and no one is able to look into the data and provide a way to correct the issue.
After much research I have finally found a way to view both client's at the same time. In the attached screen shot you can see that the credit line is attached to the correct company and the debit has the wrong company. How can we adjust the debit to match the credit? When I attempt to edit either line it always opens the same transaction.
Hello VincentOH,
I'm here to enlighten you on why the Journal report shows a different company name under the same transaction.
It's possible that you've assigned a different company name on the expense transaction. Thus, the CUSTOMER column shows two different names. To fix it, you'll have to open the transaction and modify the assigned CUSTOMER / PROJECT.
Here's how:
Furthermore, if you want to print reports, you can check this article: Print reports.

After reviewing the screenshot you provided, I have noticed that the column for Customer/Project is missing. To address this issue, you can navigate the settings and enable the Track expenses and items by customer option. To do so, here's how to.
Also, please ensure you've linked the bank transaction to the expense so the assigned customer or project will appear.

As previously mentioned I contacted support and spent 90 min on the phone for them to tell me it was an issue with the Class being assigned and I should submit a request to enhance the application. There is obviously some type of data issue here that no one is able to assist with correcting. I don't understand why support can't help correct the issue.
I have modified the payee on the expense however it does not update the report. How can we get the system to update this value?
We appreciate you for performing the steps my colleague provided to modify your payee in the expense transaction, @VincentOH.
Let me help show the changes in the report.
As you modify it, the system will still process the changes. With that, we'll need to refresh the browser where your account is logged in by clicking the Refresh icon on the left side of the main search bar or tapping the F5 Key on your keyboard.
Once done, reopen the report, and the modification will appear.

The expense screen displays the correct value of Presley. The profitability report displays the wrong value. I need a way to change the value that is showing on the profitability report.

@Clark_B The last time I called support they were unable to help me with the issue. I spent several hours on the phone and they stated that they are unable to assist. Is there anyway to get someone to research the issue? It can be duplicated many times and has been demonstrated in this forum and on the phone.
