I recognize you prefer to use the classic view in QuickBooks Online, @userdavid12. I'll share some insights about disabling the modern view.
QuickBooks updates the view for a better and more convenient experience while using it. And currently, the option to disable it is unavailable.
We understand your need for the functionality and would love to hear your thoughts about your experience when switching to modern views by sending us feedback within your QuickBooks Online company. This enables our product developers to consider bringing back the old view.
Open the Gear menu and input your thoughts from there. Here's how:
You can also review our QuickBooks Online Feature Requests website for any request updates.
We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to resolve any issues you may have. Please let us know if you have other concerns with reports, QuickBooks, or display preferences in QuickBooks. Stay safe!
That's disappointing. This is a clear example of an "improvement" that ends up making things worse. When I click on an item, say interest expense, in the P&L report by month to see the transaction report of the transactions making up the interest expense, QB used to show a nice compact listing of the transactions in the Classic view, perfect for my needs. Now it opens up a list of transactions for the entire year to date in a wide Modern expanded view that is hard to look at. Clicking on an item in say May should not bring up a list of transactions from the beginning of the year. Modern view definitely does not improve things for me and was an unwanted change.
Fortunately, there is still a "Switch to Classic View" button which gets me back to the view I want but it takes an extra step every time I click on an item to view the detail.
I'll give feedback as suggested but I'm not sure why a disable modern view was not built in originally.
Every time I click on the gear to leave feedback the whole screen freezes (5 times over the past 3 days).
I have to close the QBO page in my browser.
I too would like to disable Modern View and stay in Classic View when I need to view the line item details.
If I wanted summaries, I would make a custom report.
As said below, if I click on May I don't want to see the whole year.
Definitely NOT an improvement.
(However I do appreciate now being able to remove unused boxes on the home page -- It's much cleaner.)
Hi there, @baabcorp201.Please know that we value your business and are committed to providing the best possible service.
We can resolve the feedback screen issue by performing some basic troubleshooting steps. Occasionally, too much cache buildup in a browser can cause unexpected behavior with the product. You can open your account in a private window to clean this up. Please utilize these keyboard shortcuts:
If you can send a feedback, you can clear the browser's cache or switch to a different supported browser. It could be a short-term issue with QBO or the window you're using.
Additionally, there are numerous ways to customize your reports. You can filter them to display specific accounts or customers or format the layout so that the correct data appears in the appropriate place.
Keep me posted if you still have questions or concerns in QBO. I'll be here, ready to assist you. Keep safe!
For heaven's sake, AbegailS, READ this whole string!! Numerous users have followed those directions, to clear the cache, and have reported back that it made NO DIFFERENCE in the performance. The Modern View takes over and Classic View has to be reformatted in every detail every time we switch between screens. Modern View is set up as the default for the program, which none of us wants.
The gear/feedback is not the real concern. Where is the solution to retain Classic View as the default setting?
That is the exact situation that this entire string addresses: you have captured the problem in the most succinct message yet.
The problem is that we are all preaching to the choir here--QBO has yet to address the actual problem, to own it themselves. They want us to clear our cache, switch each time from the Modern to Classic and all that entails (!!!!) and then raise the issue through the gear, etc. for the "usual channels" to get the message. That's been done probably hundreds of times, and there has been, as per usual, no change forthcoming.
I have been encouraging everyone to go to the intuit dot com website, with a slash company slash executives (this message board won't let me put the actual URL address in the body), and click on the link at the center top where it says to "submit a request" and ask them to READ THIS ENTIRE STRING so they will know what the problem is. Unfortunately, while this will get you a call-back, it will be from the same QBO customer service number that does nothing normally. A person named Maria called me less than 2 hours later, said she was working with the Office of The President, and proceeded to misinterpret my entire 14-minute conversation. I'm just, at this point, encouraging everyone to inundate the request line with the same message "cancel Modern View and make Classic View the default -- and read this message board" so that maybe we can get SOMEBODY'S attention who could make a difference.
Please give us the option to set Classic View as our default. Modern View is clunky (the opposite of modern really) and requires extra steps every time I use it. Also, asking users to submit feedback through a mechanism that is glitchy is not helpful.
I agree, please do away with modern view and make classic view the the default.
Ive been complaining about modern view ( which I personally hate and I have over 40 years of experience in audit and acounts ) to quickbooks since it appeared. Everyone needs to do the same as that is the only way we will get it sorted.
Can we get a response from Quickbooks as to whether our request has been heard and if we are likely to see the ability to disable Modern View or to make Classic View the default?
Hello David,
I appreciate you getting back to us here in the Community space. I can elaborate on how the feature request work for QuickBooks Online.
The option to get a response regarding a feature request is unavailable. Our product engineers don't have a direct way to communicate with affected users.
They usually base the level of priority on the user requests, as well as the importance of the features. For now, I recommend checking our Feedback page for timely updates.
Also, I've attached a link you can visit to stay up-to-date to the latest news and features in QuickBooks: QuickBooks News & Updates.
Don't hesitate to reach out to the Community anytime you have questions or concerns about the QuickBooks features. The Community and I will be happy to help you some more.
So are you capable of forwarding these complaints to the development team?
replying to @AlcaeusF This is the take-away from your post: "You, the user, can't, and no, no one other than other users (the "community") is listening."
The entire string--pages and pages of it--state exactly what the users need and why. Someone at QBO need only forward this list to the developers to make us heard, and either (1) that hasn't happened, or (2) they don't care. Neither is acceptable, neither is good business.
Making the Classic View a default choice for those of us who want it should not be a CHOICE. Or, get rid of the Modern View entirely. It is a MISTAKE.
This is classic message board "we hear you" speak.I just leave feedback daily, and hope that someone, somewhere forwards it on to the dev team. It seems like it would be easier to forward these threads on to management or the developers, instead of responding with a politely worded and corporate approved message that says, "we hear your complaints, but we don't care."
It feel like they are creating a straw man argument, and pointing the problem at creating and giving feedback. All while saying, the message board is not a place to give feed back. We are just Mods, we can't help you or forward these message boards to the dev team.
I can't wait until they go full Reddit and start locking and banning posts about Modern View.
I need help to disable the Modern View this is not a good function for me and takes much more steps to do my job. Please reinstate the Classic View for your users ASAP.
I know how beneficial it is to get the ability to disable a specific interface enhancement, @Laura51.
While the option to disable Modern View is unavailable, you'll want to click the Switch to classic view button to submit a review to optimize this enhancement.
Alternatively, you can click the Give feedback link or submit your suggestion by clicking the Gear icon on the top right and choosing Feedback. That way, you can submit your feature enhancement review and suggest what should be done later on the latest updates. And recommend placing an option to disable Modern View until enabling it back. Then hit Next to submit.
This way, our Product Developers can review your experience and use it for incoming reporting/feature enhancements. To track them, you'll want to check our Feedback page for news and updates.
Additionally, I like you to check these guides for more aspects on how to manage your reports, including how to send them to your business partners and include specific data:
Let me know if you have other QuickBooks features and enhancement concerns. I'll be right here to assist. Stay safe and healthy.
Please roll back the Modern View "feature", or at least provide an option to disable it. It is very clearly based on little to no customer input and not ready for prime time.
A few issues I've encountered already:
Modern View opens with collapsed transactions, hiding the desired info
Modern View does not have an option to view "All Dates"
Excel Exports from Modern View contain numbers formatted as text (seriously?!?)
I'm sure there are more issues, but I've started clicking "Switch to Classic View" instinctively because the "Modern View" feature is so terrible.
If "Classic View" gets eliminated I will seriously consider ditching Quickbooks. You guys keep making it *less* useable and more expensive.
Hi there.
I can certainly see that you've already used to using the Classic View while using QuickBooks Online (QBO) as it has more options than the Modern View.
While you find the Classic View more convenient, I'm pleased to include that the Classic View won't be removed and replaced. This new update by our Product Engineers is focused to give our users the option to switch on which is convenient based on the business needs and the type of information you want to view.
In the meantime, you can consider sending your feedback to our Product Developers, if you haven't. This way, they can consider adding the option to disable Modern View in future updates.
Here's how you can submit your suggestions:
Alternatively, you can also send feedback through this link and get the latest updates from our development team: QuickBooks Online Customer Feedback.
Additionally, you can also browse our QuickBooks Help page for helpful video tutorials and handy articles that you can use as guides in performing QuickBooks tasks.

@Jovychris_A and @QueenC
While I appreciate your attempt to parrot the usual canned responses that we always get, I'd like to point out to the two of you, since you seem to be new on this thread (which is getting absurdly long), that EVERYTHING you (QBO) needs to know about this problem is laid out, clearly, completely, angrily, on this thread.
Rather than telling US how to waste MORE of our time trying to bring the confounded problem to the developers' attention--as if that would do any good anyway--why don't YOU submit this thread? WE are not the ones getting paid to provide service.
For the record, everything you have suggested has been suggested earlier in the thread by a couple other QBO people. If you'd read the whole string, you might get it that having the same old, same old repeated yet again at us just adds fuel to our fire. SOLVE THE PROBLEM, DON'T GIVE US AN ASSIGNMENT. MAKE CLASSIC VIEW A DEFAULT CHOICE!!!
I agree with this with every fiber of my being.
"I can certainly see that you've already used to using the Classic View while using QuickBooks Online (QBO) as it has more options than the Modern View."
Is this how you would talk to your spouse, friend, parents, or anyone else in a non-digital space? I would hope not... A company you represent is making a poor choice and you choose to (or are forced by a corporate directive or handbook) to use language that makes it sound like you are listen but in reality you are flipping it back on your customers. Which is a terrible way to communicate.
This actually made me laugh. This isn't just an issue one person has. It is all of US. It is a problem for us, that your higher ups created. It is unfortunate that you have to deal with it, but hopefully with enough noise on these threads we might get some traction to help make "Classic View" the DEFAULT view.
Every post made by either you or your co-workers is written in a way that makes NO ONE feel heard or understood. Which only makes people more angry. Stop trying to re-frame the statements made by people here and accept the complaints.
@BFoxSLF Well-said!!
Moderators, it's not enough to occasionally show up on the string. Listen up, bring it up, follow up. (And when I say "bring it up...I am not talking about bringing it up with us, the users. I am talking about bringing it to management/developers/executive board. You know....someone who can -- and SHOULD -- actually DO something to make the Classic View a default option for us. That should be YOUR job, not ours.)
