I'm happy to help manage your invoice template, @Keith1003. Let me share more information about invoices.
I understand you want to expand your description column and make your Products and services invisible to your customers. The expanding feature for each column is currently unavailable on the new invoice template.
I suggest sending Feedback to our Product Engineers. Your opinion matters to us. I assure you that our team will look at this and will debate whether to add this feature for your convenience.
Follow these steps:
For the Products and Services, we can uncheck this to our email content to make it invisible to your customers.
Here's how:
Moreover, I'd love to share these articles to help you manage your invoices:
Let me know if you still have questions about your invoice template. Have a great day, and take care.
RE: The expanding feature for each column is currently unavailable on the new invoice template.
You can't alter the column widths on the printed invoice? Wow, how 1960's.
@Keith1003 Great ideas! It would be so useful if the NEW invoice layout allowed us to continue utilizing essential functions from the OLD invoice layout. In fact, it would be so useful that customers COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS EXACT THING FOR MONTHS before the ability to revert to the old layout was removed. And yet, IT WAS STILL REMOVED.
So, enjoy your NEW invoice layout that you're paying more for and has less features than your OLD invoice layout.
I have this same problem. Suddenly my invoices, which looked just fine, have a long narrow Description field. The column for Description is about 6 words across now. And there is a large blank white space between Description and Amount.
The invoice looks horrible. The appearance looks like I just didn't bother to drag a column width to the right. Looks like I was sloppy.
I appreciate your time in raising your concern about the changes in invoice format you encountered, @LisaKZ. I'd like to address this for you and shed some light on it.
In QuickBooks Online, if the Quality and Rate fields are disabled in the invoice template, it creates a default long blank space between the Description and Amount fields. Please refer to the attached screenshot below:
I, too, would like the ability to drag the column to reduce the space between the Description and Amount fields. I understand the value of this option for you and other customers, as it would create a more polished invoice template.
For now, it would be most effective to communicate your feedback directly to our Product Developers. They're genuinely interested in hearing your input and highly encourage you to share your suggestions.
To send your input, here's how:
In the meantime, I suggest using the Classic view of QuickBooks Online, creating another invoice style, and choosing the Airy new Design.

RE: The column for Description is about 6 words across now.
The very idea that you'd need a description longer than 6 words is probably a new concept for whoever designed the new invoices.
Maybe so.
In my invoices I am usually required to list the activities I performed. Due to the nature of my business, the list is often several full lines long.
The problem would be a non-problem if the column width could be expanded.
thanks for that info. When I can get a few free moments, I will fill out the form for the developers.
I already switched to a different template to get around the problem.
Given that this is not a new problem, and seems to be so basic, I continue to be frustrated that I have to take these extra steps (change template, send developers a message).
I typed in a reply, but it didn't show up (at least not yet). Trying again.
So, in my business, I am generally required to list on an invoice the activities I perform. These activities are expected to be detailed, and end up taking up several full lines. So the 6 word description simply doesn't work.
the problem would be a non problem if I could just adjust the width.
