Dear Team,
Can someone guide me on how to get a detailed trial balance sheet from quickbooks online?
I want to see the opening balance once the report generates, but unfortunately I dont see anything related to opening balances and closing balances.
Kindly guide me.
I'm here to walk you through pulling up the report you need, Aleem Shaik.
Trial Balance and Balance Sheet Detail reports will show the beginning balance of each account.
While there isn't a specific report to show both the beginning and closing balance, you can run the Transaction Detail by Account. It contains the total of each account on your Chart of Accounts.
Let me show you how:

You can also export the report if you need to change the fonts, colors, or other aspects of the visual appearance. For detailed steps, here's how to export reports to Excel.

Dear Maryland,
Thanks for your update but being an ERP it should give us the detailed trial balance is not it? When we open the trial balance, it should show us last year closing balance as this year opening balance.
Is it not available in the complete set of quick books or only quick books online? It will be an issue at the time of auditing.
Kindly guide me.
Thanks for getting back to us, @Aleem Shaik.
As mentioned by my colleague MaryLandT, there isn't a report that shows the beginning and closing balance. As a workaround, you can export the reports to Excel and manually add the information that needed,

Dear Team,
Thanks for your reply but trust me it will create so many issues to get the opening & closing balance numbers manually.
Kindly inform me If I upgrade the version, Do I get the report?
I just need that, whenever I run trial balance it should up the opening & closing balances.
Thanks in advance.
I appreciate you for getting back to us, Aleem Shaik.
As my colleague shared above, we're unable to pull up a Detailed Trial Balance report that will display the opening and closing balances even if we upgraded to the highest version.
It is designed this way, since the sole purpose of the report is to collate your account's total debit to match the total of all the credit balances.
I've also added these links if you want to export the report to Excel:

Dear Team,
At least can I get from your side, If I am not able to pull from my side? I need it for audit purpose and If I want to do it manually It takes a lot of time.
Kindly support.
Hi Aleem Shaik,
The Trial Balance in QuickBooks Online (QBO)will show you the closing balance of each account in a given period. We're unable to add the opening balances like how the Working Trial Balance report in the QuickBooks Online Accountant (QBOA) version does. If you have an accountant with QBOA, you can ask them for a copy of that report instead.
Hope this clears up how the trial balance in QBO works.
Feel free to reach back out if you have other questions about your report.
Dear Team,
Could you please at least let me know how do i make the journal entry to show the last year closing balance in the current year opening balance?
what is the exact journal entry I make to get the opening balance in the current period?
How do I get this report you mention? "Working Trial Balance report in the QuickBooks Online Accountant (QBOA)"
I have a QBO Accountant Version and cannot find the Working Trial Balance....
Thank you
Hello there, @businessessentialsinc. I'm here to help you run the working trial balance report in your QuickBooks Online Accountant.
In QuickBooks Online for Accountants, the Working Tria Balance report is an unadjusted trial balance. We can run the Unadjusted Trial Balance report to make sure all debits and credits equal out.
Here's how:
I've added this article for your reference in case your need to learn more about navigating your QuickBooks Online for Accountants: QuickBooks Accountant year-end checklist. it includes links to related topics about using your accountant tools.
Let me know if you need anything else. Stay safe and healthy!
Do you get the information that you need if you set the time period equal to 12/31/prior year thru 12/31/current year and then select customize and set the period to months? You will see that this displays the 12/31/PY balance and the 12/31/CY balance. You also get the extraneous 11 months in between, however in excel you can hide or delete those columns.
What level of Quickbooks Online do I need to be able to pull the Transaction by Account report? I can only pull it by the date or vendor.
This is very poor design.
Hai Mary land
still i did not resolve my problem for trial balance opening and closing report
I understand the importance of getting a Trial Balance report with Opening and Closing balances in QuickBooks Online (QBO), shane.
As mentioned by my colleagues above, the option to pull up a Trial Balance report that will show the opening and closing balances is unavailable. Since the trial balance will display the ending balance of each account within a specified period.
As a workaround, we can generate a Transaction Detail by Accounts report and customize it to add a column for Open balance. On an open report, click on the small Gear icon and tick the box to add a column for Open balance.
Additionally, I've added this great resource that helps you modify and personalize your reports: Customize reports.
In case you need steps on how you can save the current customization settings of the report, you can read this article: Memorize reports in QuickBooks Online.
If you need further assistance or have additional questions about managing reports in QBO, I'm always here to help. Have a good one.
