How do I invite a contractor to add their bank info? They would prefer for me to not enter it manually. Thanks for your help.

Let me walk you through the steps on how to invite your contactors, @cofo-mike-gmail-.

You can send an invitation email allowing your contractor to enter their personal information with guaranteed confidentiality. Let me show you how.

  1. Go to Payroll.
  2. Select Contractors.
  3. Click Add contractor.
  4. Enter the name and email address based on the required fields.

Once done, an email will be sent directly to your contractor, real-time. Learn more about how the invitation email works with this article: How a Contractor add their own 1099 Tax Info in QuickBooks Online?

I'm adding this reference with the steps you can use to make sure your contractor's set up is correct to track 1099 payments accordingly: How to Add Contractors and Track Payments you make to them using QuickBooks Online Payroll?

Let me know in the comments if you have any other questions while working with your contractors and other related tasks. I'll be here to lend a helping hand.

Thanks JonpriL,

We followed the steps and my contracted added his personal information.

Now he is trying to add his bank account.  But the link has expired and he does not know how to log back in to the system.

Thanks,

Mike

Hi,

The contractor added his personal information.

A week later he tried to add the Bank Account but the link had expired and he does not know how to log back in.

Thanks,

Mike

I’m here to make sure you’re able to resend the email invite to your contractor in QuickBooks Online(QBO).

You can go to the contractor's profile to email the invite again. Here's how to do it:

  1. Select Payroll from the sidebar menu.
  2. Go to the Contactors tab.
  3. Choose the contractor from the list.
  4. In the contractor's profile, click the Send a reminder link.
  5. From the Send a reminder window, click Send to resend the email.

Here's an article you can open to know more about inviting a contractor for 1099s.

For more tips about managing contractors in QuickBooks, I recommend checking out this link: Add, edit and inactivate contractors

If you have any other follow-up questions about resending a contractor's invitation, please let me know by adding a comment below. I'm more than happy to help. Have a good one!

There is no "send a reminder" link in the profile. The only option seems to be manual.

Will I see something new if I delete and re-add this contractor?? (That seems like an absurd approach, if so.)

Any chance you can post a screenshot?

I appreciate you for joining the thread, @99ProbsAndThisIsOne.

Yes, you're right. You can delete and re-add the contractor to get the Send a reminder option available. Usually, the link will be removed once you started adding the contractor's details. See these screenshots for your visual references.

To delete the contractor's name:

  1. Click on Payroll or Workers at the left pane, then Contractors.
  2. Select the contractor's name.
  3. Tap on the drop-down arrow under the name, then choose Mark as inactive.

Once done, add the contractor again.

I'm also adding this article about tracking contractor payments in QuickBooks: Set up contractors and track them for 1099s in QuickBooks.

Let me know if you have any other follow-up questions about adding managing contractors in QBO. I'll be right here to provide additional assistance. Keep safe!

Thanks for this reply. The screenshots are particularly helpful in illustrating what's going on, even though it's still very frustrating that this is how it works. Sorry - "works."

And none of the below is about you, but there seems to be no other way to maybe, hopefully, get some info to the people who can actually do something about it.

I've got to say, it's bizarre to me that replies to this kind of question throughout the forum present these solutions (manual bank account entry or creating a new instance of the same contractor) as a reasonable way of doing business, when they 100% absolutely are not.  Please send feedback to the product team so they can prioritize this in their backlog. There are enough posts about it that it's clearly not a rare or one-off problem.

The feature already exists. There's no reason to disable it like this. Existing contractors' info changes all the time - addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, bank account numbers - every piece.

(Also, are you required to post a link to a vaguely-tangentially-relevant article? Other replies do this, too. At a minimum, I certainly hope the article on tracking 1099s supports tracking 2 instances of the same contractor and how to file his or her 1099 accurately, since that's what I'm expected to do.)

99ProbsAndThisIsOne is exactly right - it shouldn't be this hard to add bank info. It has been 10 months since this suggestion, please fix this!

@ourspaceworld

Another option, you can signup a free Melio account to integrate with QBO and pay your 1099 contractors.

https://affiliates.meliopayments.com/quickbooks

There are two ways to allow your contractor to choose how they'd like to get paid and fill out their payment information.

1. Through the vendor details in the "Contacts" section:
If you sent your contractor a request to add their payment information through their vendor information in the "Contact" section, and not as part of the payment flow, they'll receive a notification by email. They'll then be directed to the website to select if they'd like to receive bank transfers or paper checks, and add their payment information - either a physical address or ACH details.

2. Through the payment flow:
When selecting how a bill payment will be received by the payee (what we call the delivery method), you can choose to ask vendor for payment details. Once you enter and submit your contractors' email address, they’ll receive an email with a summary of the payment with a message instructing them on how to securely receive the payment. Once they click on the email, they’ll be asked to enter the details of the bank account where they’d like to receive your payment or their address for sending a check.

No matter how you choose to request your contractor's information - once they entered and submitted, the payment will be scheduled and the payment's estimated delivery date in your dashboard will be updated. Their payment delivery details will also be available for your future payments just by selecting this vendor when you schedule the next payment.

Thanks for joining the thread, EMB3.

I understand your urgency to fix this issue with your contractor. In QuickBooks Online, you can send an email inviting your contractor to fill out their personal information.

If they forgot to add their bank details, you need to delete or Mark them as inactive to send them an email invite so they can enter their bank information.

Please follow the steps provided by my colleague Angelyn_T to remove the contactor. Then, you can add the contactor again by following these easy steps:

  1. Go to Payroll and select Contractors.
  2. Select Add a contractor
  3. Click the Email this contractor checkbox so they can fill it out.
  4. Once done, hit Add contractor.

Refer to this article for more details: Set up contractors and track them for 1099s.

I've included this link to help you learn how to prepare and submit 1099 forms for future use: Create and file 1099s with QuickBooks Contractor Payments.

I'll be here to help you again if you have further questions or concerns in QuickBooks. Just add the details in the comment section.

How do I invite a contractor to add their bank info? They would prefer for me to not enter it manually. Thanks for your help.

I'm having the same issue, and a little frustrated to read through this thread and see that there is no option to send my contractors a link to edit their bank information. I have 12 contractors who regularly do work for me. I just completed their 1099s, and in doing so, I added the feature to be able to do direct deposit for my contractors. I don't really want to delete them and re-add them just to be able to send them a link. Especially since they have historical data on their earnings.

This seems like it should be a fairly simple task for the QB dev team to knock out an option to send a link to the contractors to fill out their information. Because like others have said - what if the link expires? Or they can't log in and need to change their bank account? I guess for now I will just have to have each of them fill out a direct deposit form and enter the information manually...

This isn't the kind of experience I want you to have, Yoohoo.

I recognize how relevant it is to send your contractors a link to edit their bank information. Currently, this option isn't available in QuickBooks Online QBO).

I encourage you to add your vote for this one by sending a feature request in the Feedback section within QuickBooks. Our product development team reviews all the suggestions we receive to meet the needs of our customers.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear located at the top.
  2. Under Profile, click Feedback.
  3. Enter your recommendation and select Submit.

You can also utilize this link to check the status and keep you in the loop on our progress of your request: Customer Feedback for QuickBooks Online

Please create this feature ASAP. I need to be able to send reminders and have contractors fill out their banking info for every one of my many existing contractor payments on Quickbooks online.

Update to this as I was having the same issue. Instead of readding it, I added a Bill to the Contractor, and on the Expenses-> Bills screen, there is a link that says "Ask for payment info" and I was able to send the request that way.
