How to add a tag or group after invoice is paid? I'm trying to group and tag past invoices by tax location for easier quarterly and year end accounting.

If I try to edit the invoice, it will resend to the customer. How can I add these groups and tags without resending to the customer?

Let me help you add a tag in the invoice, Kingcohandymanse.

You can edit the transaction without resending it to your customer. Here's how:

  1. Open the invoice.
  2. Under Tags, click Manage tags.
  3. Select the tag or click Create tag or Create group.
  4. Fill in the necessary fields, then click Save.
  5. Enter the tag's name to add it in the Tags field.
  6. Click Save

I'll add these references to help you learn more about the feature:

I have tried these steps before, and just now again, and the message I get says "Every time you save an invoice, your customer will see it updated on the online invoice page.". Does that mean that the customer will get an email telling them to view a change on their online invoice page? And I thought that groups and tags were internal, so why would it show up to the customer?

Let me provide some additional information, Kingcohandymanse.

Your customer will not see any alerts when you make changes to the sent invoices. However, in your case, it looks like you've enabled online invoicing. The feature lets your customer see the changes once they review the invoice again. It's regardless of the email address change or removal.

You may want to check your settings. Here's how:

  1. Click the Gear icon.
  2. Select Account and settings.
  3. Go to the Sales tab.
  4. Click the Pencil icon in the Online delivery section.
  5. Review and check the settings under Additional email options for invoices.

If it's set to Online invoice, you may want to change it to HTML or Plain text. From there, you can edit the invoice and add a tag.

I'll add this article to help you learn how to change settings and turn on features: Configure company settings.

I must be missing something here. I do not see anywhere to add tags to invoices at all?

Hey, @StephanieCrocker1

Thanks for coming back to the Community and joining in on this thread.

When changing the settings and how the invoice is displayed, your customer will see those changes once they open the invoice again.

However, the customer won't get a notification or another email unless you send the invoice again.
