I am switching to desktop, is there a specific way to do this?

Have you visited the following reference? Keep in mind, you can only able to migrate data from QBO US version to QBD US version.

https:// quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/help-article/import-export-data-files/export-convert-quickbooks-online-data-quickbooks/L0tKtLwhn_US_en_US?uid=l1m64wdj

You can purchase the one time license for QB Desktop 2021 or the subscription license for QB Desktop 2022 to proceed.

I am switching to desktop, is there a specific way to do this?

Good day, petalpushersinfoh.

Let me shed some light on the conversion process from QuickBooks Online (QBO) to QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

The first thing to know is the limitations when migrating from QBO to QBDT. You may check out this article for the list of information that can and cannot be converted in QBDT: Limitations when you convert from QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks Desktop.

The first step is to prepare a file for export:

  1. Login to your client's QuickBooks Online account.
  2. Highlight the URL and replace anything after /app/ with exportqbodatatoqbdt.  The URL should say https://cxx.qbo.intuit.com/app/exportqbodatatoqbdtXX  in the URL is a number, (don't edit the number), and select Enter on your keyboard.
  3. You'll see an Export Overview Window.  Read the Export Overview. You can print it if you'd like. Select Get Started.

Then, log in to QuickBooks Desktop and follow the steps below:

  1. Right-click the QuickBooks Desktop icon and select Run as administrator.
  2. Go to File and select Close Company. Leave QuickBooks Desktop open while you complete the rest of the steps.
  3. Select Download tool to download and install the QuickBooks Desktop migration tool.
  4. Once you download and install QuickBooks Desktop and the migration tool, select Continue.
  5. Enter your reason why you're exporting your client's data.
  6. Click Continue.

For the next step, refer to this article and proceed to Step 3: Export and convert your QuickBooks Online data to QuickBooks Desktop.

This should help get you back on track. If you need other helpful articles in the future, you can always visit our site: Help articles for QuickBooks Desktop.
