Hello, jds-jdstewart-ne.
I'm here to help you link your donation to a project.
Just to clarify, did you encounter any error message when you try to assign a donation to a project? Any information can help me find the best solution to fix your issue.
In the meantime, let's try to use a new incognito window or assign a donation using a different supported browser. Here are the shortcut keys:
Please ensure that your project was created in the Project Center before proceeding. This allows you to link the donations you've received. You can do it in a few simple steps:
For your reference, you can review this article for more details: Set up and create projects in QuickBooks Online.
In addition, I've included this resource to learn more about the Projects feature's possible functionalities: Projects FAQ.
Feel comfortable leaving us a reply if you need further assistance about assigning donations to a project. It's always our pleasure to help.
Thank you for the reply, but this and other suggestions I've seen do not work for me. I know I must be doing something wrong, but can't figure it out.
The attached screen shot shows how I am trying to record a donation from "other donor" and assign it to a project starting with "City of...". I am allowed to make the project selection, but when I save the update, it changes the project to "other donor". This is happening with all of the donors to our nonprofit, both named ones, as well as the catch-all "other donor".
Thanks for the quick response and for attaching a screenshot, jds-jdstewart-ne
Let me share a few details about the project name will change after saving the transaction in QuickBooks Online. This way, I can guide you accordingly.
The reason why the Donor/ Project description appears as Other Donor: City of Soddy is because there are denominations between them. It also helps us do quick trading searches. That said, this is normal in QuickBooks, and there is no necessary action to take.
Did you know that you can use projects to track your labor costs and profitability in QuickBooks? For more details, see this link: Track hourly labor costs and profitability by the project in QuickBooks.
Further, check out this link to know how to make project expenses billable in QuickBooks: Invoice customers for project expenses.
I'd be more than happy to work with you again to address other QuickBooks-related concerns. Just drop a comment below. Be safe always, jds-jdstewart-ne.
Thank you for the reply. Unfortunately, I am still stuck. I cannot create any project reports because I cannot assign any income to a project. Assigning costs works just fine. The attached file shows more detail of what is occurring. I am sure there is something obvious that I am missing; this is the first time I have tried to use projects.
Thanks for coming back for more support, @jds-jdstewart-ne.
Allow me to chime in and share additional details. As mentioned by my colleague above changing the description column to Other Donor is normal.
Since you already make a bank deposit that affects an income account, you can create a journal entry to move money between accounts and the project will carry over the donation. Let me show you how:
For reference, see this article: Create a journal entry in QuickBooks Online
Upon doing the steps above, I'd suggest consulting your accountant. This is to confirm that your books are accurate before making any transactions.
If you can't still assign any income to a project, I'd suggest creating a service item and using any associate income account to track the sale. Once done, use the created item for your project so you can create reports. See this article, for complete steps: Add product and service items to QuickBooks Online.
I've collected these articles that will guide you in setting up and managing projects in QuickBooks:

I have tried different supported browsers and had two support calls on 1/19/22. I still cannot perform this function which is essential for a nonprofit:
-> if a donor makes a contribution to a specific project, track and report on that donation for that project
In my case, we held a Fall Festival in 2021. This has been created as a project in QB Online for the city where we operate. I have been able so save all of the expenses against that project, but I cannot save the donations (including the donor name) against that project.
Is there a way to escalate a problem for resolution within QuickBooks support?
Thank you.
I appreciate you for performing the possible troubleshooting steps to fix the issue, jds-jdstewart-ne.
