I currently accept payments through QB but most of my clients pay via other methods. I want the option turned OFF by default but it defaults to on. How can I change that?

It's rare that I need to take a payment on QB, so  I have to manually turn off accepting payments on every single invoice. Is there a way to make the default turned "off" rather than "on"?

I understand what you're trying to say, @amys324338. I’ll share some information about the payment method in QuickBooks Self-Employed.

I can see that disabling the default payment method would make your work easier. This way, you can take payments from your clients according to their preferences faster.

As of now, we don't have the option to turn it off permanently. You can only choose between cards and bank transfer. Then, it will automatically turn-on the default payment methods when receiving online payments from your clients.

You'll want to continue turning it off manually. You can also reach out to our Payments Team. They can look it up for you and find ways to have your preferred payment method in use. I want to make sure this is taken care of, but we must protect sensitive data in this public forum.

Here’s how:

  1. Go to the Help icon.
  2. Select  Contact Us.
  3. Enter a brief description of your concern.
  4. Hit Continue.

OK, I would like to completely disable accepting payments through Quickbooks. How do I do this?

I got you, amys324338.

If you're using QuickBooks Payments, you'll want to close your account in order to disable accepting payments through QuickBooks. Below are the steps to do the task. Before doing so, ensure that there are no pending transactions, tax or customer payments, etc.

  1. Sign in to the Merchant Service Center as an admin user.
  2. Click Account, then choose Account Profile.
  3. Tap Close Account.
  4. Pick a reason in the Reason for closing drop-down.
  5. Hit Submit.

You'll receive a cancellation email confirmation within 24 hours. Also, you have read-only access to your past statements, tax forms, and reports within a year. For more information, check out this article: Cancel your QuickBooks Payments.

If there's anything else I can do for you concerning QuickBooks, don't hesitate to visit us again. I'm more happy to offer help. Have a nice day.

Oh yes that is a wonderful suggestion. Cancel my account so I can turn off accepting payments. That makes total sense!

Amy,

Did you ever figure this out? Because seems like you got a bunch of useless answers! And, I also am having this same issue, seems like no one actually knows ...its kinda sad they left this option uneditable, turning it off on every estimate is a pain, especially since you can not turn it off from the mobile app!

Frustrated,

Liss
