Hi there, Marygrace.
The assigned one location on the invoice applies to the entire transaction. For now, there's no option to divide the invoice to multiple locations. You might want to create different invoices for each location.
You may also want to consider using class tracking. This feature lets you allocate a class on each line item on the invoice. Let me route you to this Help article for more details: How To Set Up And Use Class And Location Tracking.
I'll make sure to get back here if you have follow-up questions. Thanks for dropping by.
Has there been any development on the functionality of this feature? It is frustrating not being able to set locations between splits from a transaction, as the main purpose for splitting certain transactions is to allow for their allocation to different locations.
Thanks in advance
Hello, LeedsCS.
As of now, this option isn't available yet. Rest assured, I'll personally take note of this idea and share it with our Development Team. They'll analyze this one and may be added to our future updates.
On the other hand, you can follow the workaround provided by my colleague. You can either create different invoices for each location, or you can use a class tracking.
Feel free to post here if you have additional details. I'm here to address all your concerns.
Hi
Even we do need to post multiple locations in a single invoice. It would be great if this facility is enabled at the earliest
I also think that this would be beneficial to users with businesses in different locations, People10.
Rest assured that we'll send your suggestion to our development team. Suggestions have been very helpful to us. They give us an idea of the features you need for your business. In fact, we've added a lot of features based on suggestions and requests.
You can check out our blogs to stay updated with the latest features of our products. If you have other questions, please let me know.
Anymore updates on this? I am a bit shocked that Quickbooks hasn't fixed this yet. It is definitely frustrating to have to find a work around for entering bills for multiple locations. Please do whatever you can to escalate this feature.
locations is critical in my rental business. Since switching to quickbooks back in 2017 we have constantly struggled due to the lack of this functionality. We constantly have expenses that are incurred for, materials purchased, contractor payments, combined insurance policies, you name it that are applicable across multiple property . Instead we are constantly modifying our material purchases so they occur on multiple receipts, asking contractors to separate invoices, it’s embarrassing, creates a huge amount of extra work on our part where we are modifying our business activities to adapt to our accounting system. A simple thing like insurance which is applicable to all locations must now be dealt with using intermediary accounts etc. A work around was to duplicate existing expense categories to track the split or in some cases creating a combined location instance for each location combination. Doing so has increased our number of accounts an order of magnitude which has forced us into a quickbooks advanced account almost tripling our s/w costs per year. We know we can instead use classes for locations and locations in place of class structure now but going back and swapping the inputs on over 18000 transactions since we started using the s/w is terrifying.
Any response from QB on this? We are again facing a tedious year end process of reassigning locations that QB has aggregated on invoices. Since we track Classes as well - a feature we don't want to give up - we must sink hours of time undoing what QB could have tracked. I feel your pain.
Hi Steve8521,
The option to apply multiple locations to an invoice is currently unavailable in QuickBooks Desktop. I'll take your idea and send this to our product engineers.
They're always on the lookout for ways to give you the best experience in managing invoices with multiple locations. They'll be able to review and put this to work.
We'll let you know on the QuickBooks blog once this becomes available, so stay tuned.
To get most out of your financial reports, you can customize them in QuickBooks Online (QBO).
Keep us posted if you need anything else. We're here to help.
When will QBOnline offer the option of identifying multiple locations (classes, departments, whatever you want to call it)? I have 3 clients who depend heavily on being able to identify this information in bills rec'd from vendors for more services rendered for more than one location at a time, checks that are written to vendors for the same reason, etc. etc. Definitely a drawback when trying to reconcile the bank statements (more than one check with the same # as a work-around), paying bills (bills entered with same reference # for different amounts), etc. Causes so much confusion on part of client, bookkeeper, reviewer, and more. This would appear to be an important feature from all the input here....and is so easily obtained if we just used Desktop for the clients we have.
Hi there, SL15.
I can see how this feature would be helpful for you and your business. Our product developers are doing their best to review all of our customer's suggestions and include them in the program.
At this time, we don't have the exact time frame of when the option of identifying multiple locations in some transactions would be implemented. Rest assured, I'll take note of the feedback and submit this along to our Product Development team to help improve your experience.
To get the recent news and information on the latest features and updates, I recommend visiting our QuickBooks Online Blog.
Please know that you're always welcome to post if you have any other concerns. Wishing you and your business continued success.
Hello!
Since we operate across several sites we need to report sales and expenses by site. We have an enormous number of bills received each month and need to import them as a list from an excel spreadsheet.
If we use LOCATION, we can import a list of bills directly into QB as long as each bill applies to one site. However if we have a bill (i.e. QB subscription) that needs to be split by site we cannot split by LOCATION.
If we use CLASS to track sales and expenses we can split a bill (i.e. QB subscription) BUT can't find a way to import a list of bills from a spreadsheet with CLASS as one of the listed fields!
Please, please can you allow bills to be split by LOCATION so that we can produce meaningful reporting?
Thank-you in anticipation
Iain
Thanks for joining here with us today, Chandos.
I appreciate you for sharing your thoughts about having the option to split locations for bills in QuickBooks Online. At this time, the option is not yet available but I'll take note of the details of your request.
Together with my colleagues, allow me to personally share this suggestion to our team of developers to consider this on our future product enhancements.
While we can't provide a specific time as to when will this be available, I want you to be updated with the most recent feature improvements in the product through our QuickBooks Online Blog.
I'll be around whenever you need help with QuickBooks. Stay safe and have a wonderful day ahead!
I too have been waiting for this feature for years now running numerous restaurants locations. QuickBooks, how can we expedite this? It seems there are thousands of people using your product that need this functionality. We have all trusted you with our books and are hoping that you being the leader that you are, you can really help us with this.
This question was asked 16 months ago. Seems like a long time for them to create the solution to this problem. I'm beginning to think that the auto replies in the discussion aren't being followed up on. Shouldn't take 16 months to develop a solution to a problem so many users have. Need a quicker response from the development team.
I have the same problem, I've been splitting invoices into bills just to allocate the expenses in the correct location but it is a lot of re-work. I have used so many systems with this function, I can't imagine why QuickBooks would take so long to add such an obvious and necessary function. It's a major setback the way it is today.
I have the same problem. I need to be able to share expenses with different locations/departments of my organization.
In addition, I want to be able to transfer assets inter location but within the company. This is a big lack in terms of features.
Ditto, still waiting but less and less patiently. After spending the better part of 2 full days reconstructing revenue locations this year, while trying to keep total revenues in balance, my patience with QBOL is wearing thin. I hope someone at QB is listening and can give more than the usual "I hear you" canned response. How about actually working on the problem?
I have the same problem - when is the ETA for this to be fixed. You tout QBO over QBD but the few ways that QBO is better are really not that good!!!
You've come to the right place, @rnc22.
You can set QuickBooks to assigned a class on each line item included on the invoice. I can guide walk you through how to do it.
Once completed, you can try creating an invoice and assign a class per line item on it. Also, make sure to deposit the
You can read through this article which contains additional insight about Class Tracking: How to Set Up and Use Class and Location Tracking.
Feel free to get back to us here if you have other questions about managing your invoices. I'm always here to help.
Bottom line, you can’t split transactions to multiple locations. It’s infuriating......
we run into this issue all the time where we have common expenses that apply to multiple location, like insurance costs etc and we have to allocate via journal entry. We are having our books rebuilt after this year to swap all of locations over to classes so we can split transactions. It’s just silly
QBO, this request is nearly 2 years in the works. Do you have an expected release date to enable Location tracking at the transaction line level on bills & invoices, just like we can already do with Class tracking?
Greetings, @jake.
As of now, we’re unable to provide you with a specific time frame as to when this feature will roll out. Don’t worry, our engineering team is aware of this feature request and are working on implementing this in the future.
In the meantime, you can search for an app that lets you track the location of your bills and invoices. You can go to the Apps menu in your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account and browse for apps that integrate with QBO.
You can also visit our QuickBooks App Store for additional reference. Also, check out our QuickBooks Blog page from time to time. Here, you’ll stay updated on the latest news and features in QBO.
Let me also share this article that provides complete details on how you can personalize your invoice: Customize invoices, estimates, and sales receipts in QuickBooks Online.
We appreciate your patience while we’re still finalizing this. In case you have other concerns or questions about your invoices and bills, you can always leave a reply in this thread. I’ll be around to assist you. Keep safe.
I have 1 invoice for multiple location, what happend ???
