Thanks for coming back, servalstudios.
I appreciate your time following the steps provided by Steve_C. The instructions will also help you move last year's data to the new class. I've got some sample screenshots below for reference.
For this screenshot I have the old class, which all paychecks are assigned to and the one I just created:
Next, I updated the class following the steps above and selected the Starting date.
Finally, run a report for the new class by following these steps:
I'm also adding this article for more details: Payroll accounting preferences.
Please let me know if you need something else. I'll be around to help you some more.
Hi servalstudios. To assign the classes to your employees, you will need to edit your payroll settings. It's actually quick and easy and I can guide you through in just a few steps. Here's how:
Choose Accounting.
You'll be prompted as well as to select a date for the changes to take effect from. Just select the desired date and everything will automatically be reclassified. Let me know if this helps, and feel free to leave a reply if you need anything else.Have a great rest of your day
Sorry, not what I asked. I have already done this.
I want to move last year's paychecks to this class. Right now they are unassigned.

I'm glad to hear that the steps provided by my peer above resolved your issue about moving last year's paychecks to a specific class, @servalstudios.
Also, I suggest visiting this website: QuickBooks Online Payroll Resource Hub. It contains articles that'll help you effectively manage your employees, process payroll, pay taxes, and file forms through the program.
Please know you can always create a new post here if you have other concerns. I'm cheering on your continued prosperity while using QuickBooks.
It would be wonderful if you would address issue for both Online and Desktop...because every time I ask I always get online response not desktop and even when I identify desktop I get online answer. What surprises me is you've created software which cannot do the same things regardless of platform. That's just poor workmanship.
Thank you for joining the thread, @thomas3762.
We provide solutions based on the product tagged by a user regarding their concerns or issues. Since the original poster tagged it as QuickBooks Online (QBO), my colleagues above focus on giving information to the specific product only. But don't worry, I'm here to help assign a class to your employee's paycheck in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).
First off, you'll want to turn on the class tracking feature in QBDT. Here's how:
Once done, you can now assign a class to your employee's paycheck by going to the Payroll & Employees preferences. Let me guide you on how:
I'm adding this article for more guidance: Tracking payroll expenses by class, department, or location.
That's it! Come back to this post and let me know how it goes, @thomas3762. I want to make sure you're taken care of.
Additionally, I want to add this article that'll help you pay or file your payroll taxes online: E-File and E-Pay in QuickBooks Desktop.
Have a good one.
