I'm initally setting up Vendors, do I need both the Name and Company fields completed? I don't have contact names for vendors, only company names.

SHould I just keep NAME and COMPANY fields the same if no contact surnames to include?

I’m glad to see you in the Community, jennifer-oberle-.

Adding your vendors in QuickBooks Online (QBO) is a breeze. Let me help and guide you on how to accomplish this task.

You can still set up the vendor even if you don’t have the complete contact information. Let’s make sure to enter the remaining details once you have them handy, especially if you need to issue the 1099 form.

When setting up the supplier, you can either enter the business name in the Company field or the First name box. The company name will still show on the Vendor Center even if you only choose any of the mentioned fields.add a vendor qbo.pngadd a vendor qbo.1.png

To add a contractor:

  1. In your company, tap the Expenses menu on the left panel and choose Vendors.
  2. On the Expenses page, click the New vendor button to open the Vendor Information screen.
  3. From there, input the business in the First name box or Company field.
  4. From the Display name as a drop-down, choose the correct company.
  5. Click Save to keep the changes.

If you wish to manage your lists, customers, or vendor information, here’s a great resource that will guide you through the process: How to edit, delete, and restore list elements.

You can read the articles below for future reference. These resources contain information on when to file a 1099-MIS or 1099-NEC. From there, you’ll also learn how to create and file the tax form in QBO.

Keep in touch if you still need help with managing vendors or other QuickBooks concerns. I’ll get back to assist further. Wishing you and your business continued success.
