I need to remove a cc from a clients account, it will not let me remove or edit?

Hello there, @kari-niemi.

Let me share some information about your customer’s credit card information.

In QuickBooks Payments, you can’t delete your customer’s credit card information. If your customer is no longer doing business with you, you can follow the steps below to avoid charging your customer’s credit card.

Here’s how:

  1. In your QuickBooks Online account, select the Sales menu. Then, click the Customers tab.
  2. Click the customer name, then Edit.
  3. Go to the Payment and billing tab.
  4. Select the credit card number under the Preferred payment method field.
  5. On the Credit Card Information window, change the credit card number to 4111-1111-1111-1111. It is a non-transacting test card number and fills up any date in the future for the expiration date.
  6. Once completed, click Save.

You can also use this article for other ways of editing your customer’s credit card: Edit customer’s credit card information.

If you require any further information, let me know in the reply section below. I'll be glad to help in any way I can. Take care and have a wonderful day!

Hi there, kari-niemi.

I can share additional information about editing credit card information.

Please take note that the Edit button will only allow you to change the name of the cardholder, street address, and ZIP code. For the card number, you'll have to click the + Add link from the Credit Card Information window and then completely reenter the updated information. Here's how to do it:

  1. Select Sales from the sidebar menu.
  2. Go to the Customers tab.
  3. Choose the customer you want to edit.
  4. Click the Edit button in the upper right.
  5. Go to the Payment and Billing tab.
  6. Select the current card number below the Preferred payment method section.
  7. Click the + Add link in the upper right.
  8. Enter the new card number and the other necessary information.
  9. When you're done, then click Save.

My customer wants their credit card information removed. I tried the non-transactable credit card method. This didn't work. The "Merge Accounts" is ridiculous. Would my information be secure, in their customer account page, if I were to change the credit card information to my own credit card, just as a placeholder?

Hi there, @rickcarrcsm.

Yes, your information will be secure even if you use your own credit card information when removing your customer's info. Your personal information is secured by our PCI compliance.

The PCI SSC supports using payment cards with encrypted chips for storing customer data. These new chips are harder to read and much harder to duplicate. The Council also establishes standards for wireless local area network (LAN) and cloud-based transactions.

For more info, you check out this article: What Is PCI Compliance?

Should you have any follow-up questions or concerns, don't hesitate to post again here in the Community or leave a comment on this thread. Take care and have a good one.

The "fix" doesn't work. QB knows this isn't a good card number and won't accept it.

To make matters worse, when we receive payments from a customer with an occasionally ran CC, the payment defaults to the CC even though the primary form is Check in the customer's setup.

To manually have to turn off the CC link on every invoice after running a card 1x is ridiculous.

This has been going on for years. Right now we can not get the system to turn off CC on this customer.

We process over 50 invoices from this customer a month.

There needs to be a "Delete this card" tab.

Please help.

I need to remove a cc from a clients account, it will not let me remove or edit?

Hey, @MAD2012

Thanks for joining in on this thread.

I can see how frustrating and time consuming this feature could be. Deleting this information would be beneficial for all users of QuickBooks.

At this time, there isn't a way to delete a card from the customer's profile. However, you can submit feedback to our Product Developers to consider this in the next available update.

Review our Blog site to keep up with what's new in the system.

I hope this helps answer your question. I'm always here to lend a helping hand. Don't hesitate to come back if you have other concerns!
