I recently deleted some open invoices. It completely deleted the whole contact and all the previous transactions with that customer. How do I get that back?

It's nice to see you posting in the Community forum, bluecrewinstalla.

In QuickBooks Online (QBO), we have the Audit Log tool that you can use to get your customer information on the deleted invoices.

To do this, here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon at the top.
  2. Click Audit Log.
  3. From the Filter drop-down, choose the appropriate User, Date, and Events filter.
  4. Click Apply.
  5. Locate the deleted transaction.
    1. Use the browser search.
    2. Press Ctrl + F on your keyboard.
    3. Enter a keyword about the deleted invoice.
  6. Under the History column, click View.

From there, you'll see all the information you need under the EVENT column.

For more information about the search tools in QBO, see the below articles:

Please let me know how it goes, or if I can be of additional assistance. I'm only a post away if have any follow-up questions. Have a great day.

Hi, Can you please respond to this with the instructions for QB Desktop?

Nice to have you joined this thread, @av5380. I'll make sure you can run the audit trail report in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

QBDT records each financial transaction as you add, change, or delete them. By accessing the Audit Trail report, you'll see who made the changes in your company file and what those changes are. You'll also know when it was specifically changed.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Reports menu.
  2. Choose Accountant and Taxes.
  3. Select Audit Trail.
  4. Click the Customize Report.
  5. Under the Display tab, choose the specific data you want to see in the columns.
  6. Select the date range of the report.
  7. Click Ok.

I'm adding some screenshots for your visual reference:

Make sure to select the correct filter to show the information you need. You have the option to show only the following: Entered/Last Modified, Last Modified by, Date, Name, and Account.

In addition, I'm including these resources to help you manage and generate reports to show the information you need in QBDT:

Stay in touch with me if you have follow-up questions about viewing your audit trail report. I'll always be around, ready to help. Enjoy the rest of the day!
