If I click to edit a CC expense in a Credit Card Register I continue to get a "missing transaction" error message when I want to re-save the expense. What is happening?

The error message reads: "The transaction you are trying to edit has been deleted" but it really hasn't. It hasn't always done this when editing an expense transaction.

Thanks for updating us regarding your concern with editing your credit card expense, @jenn52.

Allow me to step in and guide you with some basic trouble shooting steps to isolate the issue.

Unexpected behaviors or errors in QBO are usually caused by the stored files in your browser. If the cache is holding too much data, it can affect the browsing performance that can cause an error message like the one your getting.

That said, let's try logging into your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account using a private (incognito) browser. Here’s how:

•  Command + Shift + N (Safari)

•  Ctrl+ Shift + N (Google Chrome)

•  Ctrl + Shift + P (Mozilla Firefox)

If it rectifies the problem, clear the browser's cache. Clearing the history or log of sites resolves most issues with the web pages.

If the issue persist, I recommend contacting  our Support Team. They can look further into this and escalate the problem for investigation. Here's how to contact us:

  1. Click the (?) Help icon in the upper right-hand corner of the Dashboard.
  2. From there, select the Contact Us button and enter your concern in the description box.
  3. Once done, select Chat or Get a callback option.

To ensure we address your concern on time, just see the support hours and types article for more details.

I'd added topics about managing your vendor's credits, payments, purchase orders, pay an expense, and bills.

Visit our QBO Help Articles page for more insights about running your business in your account.

Stay in touch to let me know how it works on your end. I'm always here to help you manage your transactions in QuickBooks. Take care always.

Let me guide you on how to fix the error, jenn52.

Generally, you'll get this error when you're trying to edit an inactive account. You'll want to double-check if the chart of accounts affected by that credit card transaction hasn't been turned into inactive. For you to show your inactive accounts, follow the steps below:

  1. Click the Gear ⚙ icon on the upper left, then select Chart of accounts.
  2. Select the Gear icon ⚙ at the top of the list.
  3. Select the Include inactive checkbox.

Once found, make sure to make the account inactive. I've added the steps below:

  1. Click the Gear ⚙ icon on the upper left,  then select Chart of accounts.
  2. Select the Gear icon ⚙ above the Action column. Then select Include inactive.
  3. Find the account you want to use again and select Make active.

For more information, go through this article: Delete An Account On Your Chart Of Accounts In QuickBooks Online. Furthermore, you can run reports focusing on specific accounts. To give more details, I've added this for reference: Run Reports In QuickBooks Online

Let me know if you have any concerns about the missing error that you're getting. Remember, I'm here to make sure that you'll get covered.
