IIF Import problem

Hi!

I created a sample IIF file below to import my daily sales.  Everything works great except that the name, "Square Inc." does not show up on import on the Deposit line (for the 513.73 amount).  So I have to manually enter that vendor name in the register for the imported transaction.  I checked and the vendor name in the IIF file matches with the name in my QB Desktop.  Does anybody know why and can you please help me to solve this problem?  Many Thanks.

IIF Import problem

Never mind.  Thank you.  After posting this question, I found out the solution.  The solution is to NOT click on the Import IIF button but to use the option below it.  Apparently, the latter option uses a different import code.  So the NAME field is NOT ignored.  Thank you all.

IIF Import problem

@FritzF - why would the name not be imported on deposits when using the "recommended" approach of clicking the Import IIF button?

IIF Import problem

Hi, leodee1.

I'll shed some light on the missing name from the IIF file and then lay down the details on how we can take care of it.

When adding your deposits in QuickBooks Desktop using the Import IIF Tool, I recommend ensuring the right format is followed. This way, your transactions will be imported successfully. Using an incorrect one can cause missing names or other info in your file.

Aside from that, make sure the spelling and placement of the headers are correct. It'll tell the program how to import the type of data. It begins with !TRNS!SPL, and !ENDTRNS.

For more guidance to import your IIF data, you can follow these steps:

  1. From the QuickBooks Help menu, choose QuickBooks Help.
  2. Select the Search tab
  3. Type IIF file format, and select the Start Search arrow.
  4. Select Reference guide to import files.

You can also browse this article to learn more about how to use the template: IIF Overview: import kit, sample files, and headers.

Once you're all set, you can start importing your lists and transactions to QuickBooks Desktop

Finally, you can browse and bookmark to guide you on what to do with your imported data: Tasks you can do with IIF files.

I'm always here to help again if you have more questions about managing and importing your data. Would you like to learn more about other processes in QuickBooks? I'm with you every step of the way.
