Is there a way to override the quantity on an invoice from 7 to just 2 decimal points?

I enter the total amount of the invoice and it populates the quantity with 7 decimal points.

Hi usernabilissa,

Nomally the invoice amounts only have 2 decimal digits. You can only have more than two on the rates.

You can select a number format in the settings to limit the decimal place of the amounts into two.

  1. Click the Gear icon and choose Accounts and Settings.
  2. Choose the Advanced bar.
  3. Scroll down to the Other Preferences section.
  4. Select the number format you want.
  5. Click Save and Done.

Please let me know how it goes.

Thank you for your reply. The 7 decimal points shows up in my Quantity when I enter my price on the invoice created from my sales estimate. I am selling in kilos (so my sales price and quantity are in kilos) and I only want the decimal to be 2 digits instead of such a precise 7 digit kilo quantity.

Example:

Quantity shown on invoice  26,308.6257669

Quantity I want to show: 26,308.63

Glad to have you back, @usernabilissa.

Let me share some clarifications regarding the decimal digits that are showing up on your invoices.

When converting an estimate to an invoice, the quantity of the item will display up to seven decimal digits. This is because the original quantity figures are transferred over to the Due column and the information that will show up are fixed.

To change the decimal numbers into two, you'll need to manually create the invoice instead of converting it from the estimate.

I can see the convenience of being able to have a 2 decimal digit on the QTY to show up upon the estimate conversion for your business. Know that our developers are constantly working and considering new features to be added to the system to cope with our customer's needs.

Thank you for clearly identifying and understanding my issue. I understand that I can solve this by manually creating an invoice. However I am invoicing partial quantities from the overall estimate and when I create an invoice from the estimate I can use the estimate to keep track of how much is left to sell from the original estimate. If I use your suggestion of creating an invoice manually, can I somehow deduct the partial amount I invoiced from the original estimate until the estimate is reduced down to zero? Thank you again for all of your insight and your full understanding of my issue.

Thank you for getting back to us, @usernabilissa.

QuickBooks Online (QBO) only allows you to convert an estimate to an invoice to deduct a partial amount from the original estimate. I understand that you're trying to change the decimal points when converting the estimate to invoice. However, QuickBooks is designed to display up to seven decimal places.

As a workaround shared by my colleague BettyJaneB above, you can consider creating an invoice manually instead of converting it from the estimate.
