I appreciate the update you've provided above, @Granzaman. This isn't the kind of experience we want you to have when migrating your data from QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) to QuickBooks Online (QBO). With this, I'm here to share details on the actions you need to help take care of this matter.
As mentioned, trial codes or licenses are only available for the current versions of QBDT. Since the Community is a public forum, and we'll need to collect some personal information to pull up your account to check why you're unable to upgrade your company file, I'd recommend contacting our Customer Care team. They can create a case and use the appropriate tools to help you upgrade your company file. This way, you can successfully migrate your data to QBO.

Thanks for your reply. Every avenue suggested by the responses have at least roadblock. Tons of wasted time and energy. So how do I reach you directly for some help? Other than that, I'm pretty much giving up on this.
