Quickbooks decided to give Invoices a new look. What a disaster
We use invoices to book our daily sales at our restaurant. We don't use sales receipts because we need to apply multiple payments to a single invoice. Last time I tried this using sales receipts only one payment could be made
1) No longer an option to make Discounts pre or post tax. The old version it was drag-and-drop. If there's a way to do this in the new design then they've obfuscated the process pretty well
2) Sales tax amount requires a bunch of clicks to override. Before I could just position the cursor in the sales tax box and put in the value. Now there's a button, then a new window then you are required to put in an override reason. WTH?
Please stop messing around with perfectly good processes. Instead, fix the sales tax reporting function which is just terrible

Is there a way to remove the current hideous layout that we are forced upon to use?
Can someone please tell me how to get my fields back when using invoicing on the mobile app? Our business used to run so smooth with invoicing on the tablet .. having our customer fields that we need (PO, last contained and trailer number) we could also get driver signature on the tablet all of that is now GONE please help!!
QB What a load of garbage! I could care less about your "acknowledgement" I don't want validation from YOU!
As business owners we are paying for a particular product, you just pulled that product off the shelf and told us to like the substitute! Guess what? Vendors don't tell Customers what they want, it's the other way around and if you can't grasp that concept and put the original product "back on the shelf" I will buy my products elsewhere!
When that happens and your feelings are hurt... we understand and validate your feelings, they're natural!!!!
I HATE THE UPDATE!!!
I submitted feedback as you suggested.
This update takes away functionality and adds no functionality! What possessed QB to do this?
Do you even focus group it? Do you have a UAT process? This update will add to bookkeeping time and effort.
YOU NEED TO ROLLBACK to the PRIOR version PLEASE!
Discounts need to be taxed!!! C'mon! this is basic stuff!!
Who is asking to add a reason to override tax? Where did this requirement come from?
I'll hear you out, @llacuesta.
We currently have an investigation on the custom fields not appearing when creating invoices in the QuickBooks Online (QBO) mobile app. One is a recent case using the app on an Android OS and another on an iOS tablet. I'm here to provide initial troubleshooting steps for the app on an Android OS and updates on this issue on an iOS device.
We've received similar reports from other users who experienced the same problem with the custom fields not appearing in the app's invoices on an Android device. Since this could be a temporary issue with the app's storage, I recommend initially performing these troubleshooting steps: Fix common errors in the QuickBooks Online mobile app for Android.
If you're using the mobile app on an iOS tablet, our product engineers are working on a resolution for this one following the update of the new invoice experience. I encourage contacting our Support Team to add you to the list of affected users. This way, you'll be notified once the issue is resolved. Here's how:
1. Go to Help (?) in your QBO account.
2. Select either of these tabs:
3. Choose how you want to reach us (phone or chat).
Although this isn't ideal, I suggest using the QBO's web version on your tablet to manage the custom fields for now and look for a third-party app to get customer signatures on invoices on the Apps page.
The invoice layout is being updated continually in this transition from the old to the new experience, and we value your suggestions for the software's future updates. I also encourage sending your feedback to our product engineers regarding this. You can also track feature requests through the QuickBooks Online Feature Requests website. Here's how you can send your suggestions:
Let me add this article as a guide to personalizing your invoices in the new invoice and estimate experience within QBO: Customize invoices, estimates, and sales receipts in QuickBooks Online.
We'll be here in the Community if you have further concerns about navigating the new invoice layout in your QBO mobile app. We'll do our best to assist.
PLEASE ROLL BACK THE OLD FORMAT
I am very disappointed with the new estimate and invoice layout and functionality. on the mobile app for exacmple, when creating an estimate, the customers are not showing up yet they do show up if i create an invoice directly.
also, when editing an estimate on mobile app, it was become much more time consuming as i can't delete items directly and fast. basically, in my business i need fast response to my customers and these changes have made the process so slow and inconvenient.
i can only hope that we will be able to opt in to have the previous layout.
very bad updates and functionality.
It’s nightmare and a total disaster!
Yes, I agree it needs to be rolled back immediately.
I agree. We went to send out our invoices today and happened to see we had been forced to the new template which is NOT what we use. In order to switch back to our regular customized template, I had to click individually on 40 invoices to change each one back to the regular template. It doesn't matter if you have your default template set to the one you want to use in the main QB settings. When an invoice is imported into QB it still forces you to the new template. You want to give users a new template, fine, but don't take away a feature I already had and pay for. Need a solution to default to a different template quickly. I am sure I am not the only one with has had this issue since the update and probably people have alot more than 40 invoices a week. Horrible decision
I absolutely agree. I'm also having a horrendous time with sales tax. The sales tax mapping is so random as of late. I had a transaction yesterday where the customer purchased 2 taxable items, and QB charged tax on one and not the other ON THE SAME INVOICE. WHAT!!!??
I'm having such constant trouble that I've created a folder on my desktop called "QB is stupid" and I'm adding screenshots as things go wrong.
Additionally, I have some customers that receive paper invoices, and now when I print the invoice to mail, there is a "PAY INVOICE" radio button that prints on the invoice. This looks so unprofessional! It pains me so much to mail this to my customers!
NEW INVOICE is 100% garbage no new functionality and they took away old functionality. In other words bend over. Shameful roll out from a company that that takes their customers for granted. The only good course of action is a roll back to the previous version until they properly assess customer feed backand beta test this garbage. Anything less is a signal to look for an alternative (Xero, Netsuite, Shopify Plus).
I understand your concerns and acknowledge the need for a resolution, AceFit. I'll provide information on this matter and ensure you can handle your sales transaction efficiently.
Before we proceed, let me explain how QuickBooks Online calculates the total tax rate. It takes into account three factors:
It's important to review each item to see if it was set as taxable or not. If the issue persists after verification, open your account in a private window to eliminate browser issues.
Here are the keyboard shortcuts you can use:
Return to your regular browser and clear your cache once the items are correctly calculated. Accumulated cache and cookies can sometimes become outdated or corrupted, leading to unexpected behaviors. You can also switch to other installed supported browsers, which is a good alternative.
For your second concern, I'll walk you through how to remove the Pay Invoice button below.
Moreover, I'm adding this helpful article for future reference to help manage your invoices and better understand the sales tax feature in QuickBooks Online.
You may continue your ongoing work and make well-informed decisions with the resources above. This approach will also ensure that the items are properly taxed and that your printed invoices convey a professional look.
Please put it back the way it was. This is awful. Can not even see what the sales tax rate is without needing to open up see the math and change it. Design is confusing. Offer a classic view options because this is awful
Thank you, I do appreciate the response and attempted solutions to my issues.
Though I have to mention, It does seem a bit excessive to me that it takes 6 steps to remove something that shouldn't be on a printed invoice at all by default.
Couldn't agree more. Intuits response to customers bringing up issues and concerns with this new layout has been horrible, basically talking down to their end users and patronizing them in the most condescending way possible.
I AGREE THIS NEW INVOICE FORMAT IS TERRIBLE. PLEASE ALLOW US THE OPTION TO USE THE OLD LAYOUT. THEY TELL YOU TO SUBMIT FEEDBACK BUT NOBODY RESPONDS.
QUICKBOOKS, WHY NOT ASK CUSTOMERS IF THEY WANT TO USE THE NEW FORMAT INSTEAD OF JUST CHANGING IT AND SAYING TOO BAD.
What were the steps that you used to get back to the old template? I'm trying but no success yet.
Hi Johns64
To go back to your old template, go to your invoice list put a check mark by the invoice you need to change and then go to edit. On the top they are four tabs the first one being Edit. While on that tab, on the right hand side of the page pick the design box and expand it. You will see it is defaulted to the "modern" which is the one everyone is being forced to. Right below you should see your template listed that you can click the radio button side it and then click save at the bottom. Then you can do print/preview and see the invoice on your template and it will send like that as well. You have to do for each invoice though
Thank you, that is working!
Actually, it seems to temporarily be defaulting to my old template. (When I click on PDF View it tells me I'm using an old template). I'll find out when I preview/print. Fingers crossed. We use QBO on Mac computers.
That's right John. You have to do print/preview to see it on the old template. They shut you out of your old template on the new screen with the 4 tabs at the top. All of ours sent out to our customers correctly once I changed them individually and saved them. The next time you import invoices, you will have to go through the same process on each individual invoice until/if they fix this. I thought maybe they had forgotten to allow this from 3rd party apps but it happens with spreadsheet sync to.
