I ran an unpaid/open invoice report before and after applying payments and the report generated after applying payments is an additional $900 lower than the applied payments. I am trying to identify where the discrepancy is coming from. Report details and steps below
I ran a report using the following details:
Product/Service Detail Report
Filter A/R Paid - Unpaid
All Dates.
I then applied payments and reran the report as above. I did not save the original report, so I can't compare the two and I'm not seeing a way to run a report as if I didn't apply the payments. Numbers were copy pasted into google sheets.
I verified using the audit log that payments applied matched the payments received.
As an example, let's say I have $10,000 in unpaid invoices on the original report, apply $5,000 in payments, and then rerun the report and get $4,100 in unpaid invoices.
Any help is appreciated!
Hi there, Lostsolopreneur.
Let's try matching the invoices with its payments within the banking section. QuickBooks Online looks for open invoices. If it's not finding any open invoice, you can open the payment to expand the transaction and use the Find Match option to search for the transactions.
Here's how:
If you're still unable to find the open invoices, you may want to review the transactions and make sure that the invoices are not reconciled or cleared.
You can get more details in these articles:
That's it. If I can assist you with anything else or additional questions about this, feel free to leave me a reply.
Sorry, I should have mentioned in the post that I did match the bank deposits to each payment received.

I suggest to re-run the details, let’s make sure to filter the date and other detail report will be sorted accordingly. Here's How:
1. Open up the Reports menu from the top menu bar.
2. Select Invoices and Received payments from the drop-down menu.
3. Filter by date in the Date field. View specific invoices by double-clicking on the amount in the report.
I added this article how to run report for outstanding balances in QuickBooks Online: Run an accounts receivable aging report. This report will help you check overdue invoices.
