PL by Class Report

Is there a way to get a P/L by class report that omits deleted classes? My report has a column that is called "0(Deleted)". I do not want to see this column in the report.

PL by Class Report

Let's find a way to get through with this, yelda.

Deleted classes will show in the Profit and Loss by Class report if they have associated transactions. There are two ways that we can do to prevent the deleted class from displaying on your report. We can:

If you select the first option, here's how to change the associated class:

  1. Open the Profit and Loss by Class report.
  2. Click on the amount under the deleted class column.
  3. This will open a Transaction Report that displays the associated transactions.
  4. Click on the transaction and change the class associated to it.
  5. Click Save and close.
  6. Select Yes to confirm the action.
Note that changing the associated class will also change your figures on your report.

If you select the second option, here's how to export the report:

  1. Open the Profit and Loss by Class report.
  2. Click the Export option and select Export to Excel.
  3. Save it on you computer. and open the file on Excel.
  4. Remove the column.

Let us know which option suits and how this goes. We'll be right here to further assist you. Have a great day!

Thanks, James. I would rather not manually have to tweak the report every time I export to Excel, so I do not prefer the second option. As for the first option, I have checked both the Balance Sheet and the P/L for all dates and do not see any transactions associated to the deleted class. Do you have any other suggestions?

Thanks for getting back here, yelda.

I'd like to share some steps about your concern. You'll want to customize the Profit and Loss by Class report to only show the active classes. Then, memorize the report by following these steps:

  1. Open the Profit and Loss by Class report and select the Report period.
  2. Click the Customize button and select Filter.
  3. From the Class drop-down menu, put a check mark on the Select All box. This will not include the inactive class.
  4. Hit the Run report button.
  5. Click the Save customization button to add the report on the Custom reports page.

Here's a sample screenshot for reference:

I'm also adding these articles on for more information:

To view the transactions that are linked to a deleted class, you can follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Gear > All Lists.
  2. Select Classes and click the Gear icon above the Action column.
  3. Put a check mark on the Include Inactive box.
  4. Find the inactive class and click the drop-down arrow next to Make active, then select Run report.
  5. Select All Dates from the Report period drop-down menu.
  6. Click Run report.

If you see any transactions from that class, you can click the date to view the details and change the class to a different one.

Please let me know if there's anything else you need. I'll be around to help. Take care and stay safe.

Thanks Renjolyn. I have checked for any transactions being posted to the deleted class by making the class active and running report and and did not find any. I also followed the steps for selecting all classes in the filters and that still brought the inactive class in the report. Please let me know if you have any other suggestions/solutions.

PL by Class Report

Hello again, yelda.

I appreciate your time following the steps above. I've got another solution that we can try. We can do some troubleshooting steps to rule out if this is caused by browser-related issues.

To start, open your account in a private or incognito window. This mode doesn't store cache. You can use the keyboard shortcuts below:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl Shift N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl Shift P
  • Safari: Command Option P

Next, run the Profit and Loss report by Class and customize it. If you're not seeing the inactive class, our final step is to open the regular browser and clear its cache. Please make sure to close and re-open your browser afterwards. You can also try using a different supported browser.

If you're getting the same result, I recommend reaching out to our Customer Care Team, We will investigate more on what's causing the class to show up in the report.

Before doing so, please check out our support hours here. Then, follow these steps:

  1. Click the Help icon located in the upper right-hand corner.
  2. In the Help window, click the Contact Us button located at the bottom.
  3. Enter your question and click Let's talk.
  4. Choose either Start a chat or Call us.

Please feel free to visit this thread again if you have more questions for QuickBooks Online. I'll be around to help you some more.
