Hello there, Dbeck.

In QuickBooks Online, we're unable to support the state information for 1099-MISC. That's why, you're unable to map or categorize the payments when preparing the form.

To file the form, you have to submit it electronically to your state agency through e-TIDES.

You can check this article for more information: New 1099-MISC Withholding Tax Requirements.

Don't hesitate to leave a comment if you have further questions. We'll be happy to answer them for you.

I'm having the same problem.  Did you find a way to resolve?

I'm going to put the figures where I need them in a word document, then put the 1099 that I already printed in the printer to add this missing state information.

Good day, CarolG,

Thanks for getting in touch with us today. I can add a bit more about adding the state information on the 1099-MISC.

My peer @Kristine Mae shared a great answer. Being able to report your state information to the 1099-MISC form in QuickBooks is a great idea we can add in QuickBooks Online.

Since you're unable to do this in our, you can try the workaround you've added on your post. You can also download the 1099 MISC from the IRS website then fill it out manually.

I would also recommend sending a request to our developers using the Feedback option. Doing this will let them know what features would help a business like yours run a little better, and they will consider that in a future update.

Here's how to send your request:

1. Click the Gear icon.
2. Select Feedback.
3. Enter your feedback and suggestions.
4. Click Next.
5. Select Feedback for the Category.
6. Click Send message.

I'll do the same thing in my end to reinforce your request. You may also track your suggestion through this website: https://feedback.qbo.intuit.com/

That should do it, CarolG. You might find this State Publication helpful: Pennsylvania 2018 W-2 and 1099 Employer Withholding Reporting Instructions and Specifications Handbo...

Please keep me in the loop if you have any questions about payroll. I'll be more than happy to help. All the best!
