Hi sandramillerprol,
Let's customize the Budget vs. Actuals report to show only the totals.
Here's how:
Is it possible to generate a report with a month of actual vs. YTD, compared to ANNUAL budget, not monthly budget? We operate on a cash basis and don't break our budget out by month.
Thanks for dropping by the Community space, @bbf.
I can route you to the right direction about generating the Budget Report showing the mentioned date range.
The option to run the report showing the month of actual vs. YTD and then compare it to the annual is unavailable at this time.
We're always looking for ways to improve QBO and have various improvements to streamline the customizing process. Ideas shared on this page are being considered for future enhancements.
You'll find what's new added to the product by visiting the QBO Blog site. I will also update this post once there's progress about this.
As a workaround, you can export the report to Excel and tailor it from there. I’ll guide you through the steps.
For additional resources, I’m also adding links with detailed information about exporting and customizing reports.
This information should help you move forward. Keep me posted on things go after following these steps. I’ll be right here to assist further.
I was able to show quarterly actuals vs annual budget reports in the desktop version. It's a huge drag to manually update this via Excel. Please, please add this feature as soon as possible.
Thanks!
Hi there, @SiO.
QuickBooks Online (QBO) is constantly changing and evolving based largely on the suggestions and requests of users like yourself. I can see how helpful to show quarterly actuals vs annual budget reports in QuickBooks Online.
I'll make sure to pass the suggestion along to our product developers. Your ideas help us determine the improvement we should add to the software.
You can also visit the QBO Blog and register to our Newsletter to receive email updates about the product and latest applications our product team is working on.
As always, feel free to hit the Reply button if you have any other QuickBooks concerns. I'll be happy to help you out. Have a great day ahead.
I just wanted to add that the ability to have generated a budget vs actual report for the month that would also include YTD totals would be highly beneficial to my business as well.
We're always open for feedback, emmon123.
I'll surely take note of this so I can send request to have a Budget vs. Actuals with YTD totals.
Meanwhile, you'll want to follow the workaround provided by Rasa-LilaM. You can export the report to Excel file and manage it from there to get the details you need.
Keep your posts coming if you need more help. Have a great day!
Has this still not been added as an option? Is my best option to change my budget to have the annual amount in January and nothing for the rest of the year?
With our budgets in the system split into 1/12th of the annual budget, I can sort of make the report I want--but not quite. It seems like it would only work if I change 'date' to fiscal year & 'show columns' to year and only if I manage to run it exactly on the last day of the month. I don't want my January report to include the first 6 days of February which is what it will do if I run the report now. It is a lot of work to recreate this in excel if I can avoid it--especially with having to type the budget manually and calculate overages and percentages.
Any thoughts or suggestions?
I can see that a feature requests have already been sent about getting this option when running a budget report, LCook.
For now, we're unable to customize or run a Budget vs. Actuals with YTD totals. I'll be sending another request about this to our product engineers.
In the meantime, you can continue the workaround that you've shared in your post. We'll tag you here to let you know if there's an update from our engineers. You can also visit this link to keep updated of the latest features that are added in QBO: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/blog/whats-new/.
The Community is always here if you have other questions. Thanks!
Rasa, whatever passes for competence with you -
people have been complaining about this for MORE THAN THAN YEARS. Intuit clearly doesn't care, so stop claiming otherwise. It would take ALMOST NOTHING to fix it, but then Intuit would actually be acting in response to customer needs, and let's be real, Intuit has no intention of doing so... ever. Proof: the vast abundance of incompetent service help on Quickbooks. I don't think any of you have ever actually used the software.
Jeno, blahblahblah. People have been asking for this to be fixed for more than a decade. You sound like a dolt simply repeating the same lie Intuit has been giving all along in response: that it gives a s*** about what we need. Go find something better to do than repeat more nonsense that helps no one.
We also would like this report. I do have to manually manipulate in excel as others are describing. If so many are asking, give us date of when it will be delivered! Thanks!
Hello,
This is a basic reporting requirement for any operation...Actual YTD v Budget YTD. Just started using Quickbooks for a charity and struggling to understand why this is not a simple option. Presumably Actual YTD v Budget YTD v Prior Year is too much to ask...
Thank you.
We are in the same boat. I'd like to run a budget to actual report showing monthly actuals with YTD total budgeted. What an incredible pain that this has to be manually done in Excel. We switched over from an archaic accounting system and thought QuickBooks online was going to be a huge upgrade...but even the archaic system we were using before allowed us to run this kind of report.
Adding on here. I also need this type of report ASAP. Please fix.
We also need this functionality. Ability to run a monthly financial statement and also see the YTD actuals vs Budget. I'm amazed that this does not exist in QB online - this seems like a basic financial statement that even the simplest accounting systems offer. Is anyone at Intuit actually working on this?
PLEASE PLEASE add this feature.
I need a column for YTD actual and a Column for YTD Budget. See Sage options:
Hello there, @finance-spacecen.
Thank you for reaching out to us with your request to add a feature of getting a YTD report for Budget vs. Actual. Currently, that option is not available. And I would recommend sending your feedback within your QuickBooks Online company file.
Here's how:
Your valuable feedback goes to our Product Development team to help improve your experience in QBO.

Please let me know if you still have questions with Reports. You're always welcome to post here in QuickBooks Community. Take care and have a good one.
Writing in 2022: Still looking for ability to run a report that has YTD total (not monthly) vs. Annual Budget numbers. This is something that EVERY small business/charity is looking to have easy access to. Yes we all know how to make the report in excel, but it is beyond pathetic that the QBO accounting software doesn't permit such an easy report to be run. It's even worse that this is something that customers have clearly been requesting for years, but QBO just choses to ignore them. Time to look at alternatives to QBO, of which I understand there are a number!
Hi @Tulips
If it helps some of the QuickBooks Add-on apps will be able to help you to produce far more flexible P&L reports from QuickBooks Online data which will suit a Charity or Non profit entity.
As an example our solution BI4Cloud Business Intelligence comes with a standard P&L format that will let you easily report Actual YTD v Budget YTD v Full Year Budget.
Our P&L Forecast report actually includes many other standard report column options including MTD also Last year numbers, then you can simply choose what you want to display and save that format to re-use.
See Example below:
Below shows some of the other columns available to choose from.
You will also have the ability to change Rows to see:
You are most welcome to do the 14 Day Free Trial and see if it will help to save you time.
