Hello, I am trying to find a way to run a rent roll report for my company. The method we currently use is by utilizing the Customer Contact List report to show the start/end date of the customer, along with other important information.
The issue arises with the balance. The customers' recurring charges are set up on automatic memorized entries that post 20 days into the month. Say I go to run the Contact List report in the middle of January, charges from February will appear in the customer's balance. I don't want that.
Is there a way to change the date range of the report to only show the current customer charges? If not, is there a similar report I could be using that would show the customer's balance along with their start/end date?
Thank you!
No, List reports like the Customer Contact list report don't have a concept like that. They just report on current information.
Hi @Trey_A, I'll help customize your report.
You have the option to choose a date range to limit the customer charges showing on your report. I'll show you how.

The report date range does not have an "OK" button for the customer contact list report. It's the only report that does not allow you to click "OK". QB needs to fix this. I can't run this report without it.
Nice to see you here in the Community, @kcludlow. This behavior with the missing OK button might caused by damaged data.
Before we begin the troubleshooting, open a sample file to determine if the behavior is the same as your company file and find out if the issue is with your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) software. Once opened, change the report date range in the sample company file. You may follow the steps provided above.
If the error persists, follow the steps outlined in the following article on how to manually repair your company file: Fix data damage in your QuickBooks Desktop company file. I do have steps here that we can follow. Here's how:
Once done and nothing happens, follow the second steps. I'll guide you how:
If you can edit the date range in the sample company, go back to your original file, update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release, and perform the Verifying and rebuilding data. It's a built-in tool that auto-detects and self-resolves minor company file data issues.

Thanks for your reply. I do not have QB Desktop but QB Online so your advice doesn't apply. I have no clue why the subject this forum gave me was Desktop. I never chose that option.
I appreciate you getting back on this thread and clarifying the QuickBooks product you're using, @kcludlow.
QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online are two separate, though similar, products. They're both accounting software with totally different database structures.
In QBO, we can click the Run report option after modifying the date range from the filter customization. This way, it will save the information you've changed or customized. Here's how:

Thanks for the response, but that's why I'm on here. The "Run Report" button is missing. I've used QBO for many years and am an accountant myself. The button is missing.
Hi there, @kcludlow.
Thank you for sharing a screenshot of your concern. I'm here to help ensure you can run a report according to your needs.
The Run Report button is only available in the old report interface. With the new interface, you'll just need to select the Customize button and add the details you want to show on the report. This will automatically update the report. I'll attach a screenshot below.

Come back to this post if you have other concerns or follow-up questions about this. I'll be around to provide further assistance.
I appreciate the response but that is the very first thing I tried. When I enter my custom dates, the report doesn't change. As you can see from my screenshot, I have custom dates entered but the report is still only showing the current year.
Thank you for returning to this discussion and including a screenshot to provide further clarification, kcludlow.
Changing the dates in the Customer Contact List report won't affect the information displayed because this feature is designed for transactions, not customer details.
The custom dates feature works in other reports, like Transaction List by Customer and Transaction List by Vendor. I understand that this might be confusing, so let's offer feedback directly to our product engineers regarding the modern report.
Still, I would like to ask about the specific information you would like to get through the report. By knowing your specific needs, it allows me to give you more precise assistance with the right information.
If you have a specific question about QuickBooks reports or need general guidance, please feel free to ask me. I'm here to lend a hand! Take care always.
