Mitch,
With all due respect, your statement, "There's currently no known issue with the above-mentioned problem.", is incorrect. The point of this thread, which has been growing over the past year has been a discussion of the KNOWN ISSUE with the above-mentioned problem.
You felt the need to minimize an issue presented to you by legitimate customers. Your customers are now and have been unhappy with your product. I don't know what you were hoping to point out with your visual representation of the current Bill Payment Stub; your customers have spoken, and they are not pleased.
No matter how much you might feel justified in talking down to us for not appreciating the masterpiece you've provided, we are still unhappy.
What is the issue with making the form customizable? Why did QuickBooks feel the need to change it from previous years? Mitch, in case we've been unclear, contrary to what you might choose to believe, there is a known issue with the above-mentioned problem, and for the past year, we have been asking the same questions with no resolution or explanation. And today, we can include yours among the unsatisfactory responses we've received from QB.
How about all of us who have custom printed RIGHT WINDOW envelopes which we have been using for years to accommodate the old format Bill Payment stubs? Can't use them any more, and the address box on the new left window format does not place the address in the window of a standard left window envelope, we have to fold over the top of the stub in order to get it to show. Classy! Why on earth won't you people just fix this back to the way it was before?
If I were a more cynical person, I might think that Intuit has disabled the ability to customize the layout of the bill stub because they want to force us (their customers) into purchasing the envelopes that will work with their defective bill payment stubs. QB's envelopes are a "bargain" at only $38.74 for 50 envelopes (0.78 per envelope). Of course, at Staples, I can get 500 window envelopes for 39.99 (.08 per envelope). This is beginning to seem like the kind of issue that needs the attention of a national business-news kind of TV channel (like CNBC or Fox Business, for example...?). Anyone have any contacts at those places?
They will let you change the color! WOW! This is a ridiculous form!
Thank you for taking the time to speak what we're all thinking. It is insulting that their customer service reps are allowed to be condescending and untruthful the way Mitch was with that post. The only customizable parts of the bill payment stub are the color and which of your company information you want on the form (even then, you can't choose WHERE your company information appears, only WHAT). There is no option to change what fields are shown (for example, I have no need for a "discount" column with the way my business runs) and there's no option to customize the size of the columns if any reference numbers are being cut off.
The icing on the cake how is this lack of customization is happening after we're forced into an annual subscription. Nothing but capitalistic greed, you'd think with all this extra annual income they'd hire and properly train competent customer service agents that can read and properly understand customer's issues...
DON'T BELIEVE QUICKBOOKS' CLAIMS THAT UPGRADING TO A HIGHER TIER VERSION OF QUICKBOOKS WILL ALLOW BILL PAYMENT STUB CUSTOMIZATION. THIS IS NOT TRUE (I am currently running DT Premier Plus 2022).
I don't know if this is the problem you're talking about but I didn't want the boxes around the columns and you can click a box in the printer options that says "do not print lines around each field" and this solved my problem. I do agree that we shouldn't have to go through all this effort to edit a template. It's ridiculous.
Hope this helps someone!
Melissa
Mitch, it is 2023 and everyone here in this thread still has the same issue: THE TEMPLATE IS NOT CUSTOMIZABLE.Your answer above was not helpful.
We want the "Layout Designer" button back as is available with Invoice and Purchase order templates.
Why isn't this feature available for Bill Payment Stubs?
I'm delighted to have you join the thread, @z1300! I'll share information concerning this feature.
Being able to use QuickBooks Desktop effectively for any task would be nice. The Invoice and Purchase order templates do not support the "Layout Designer" button.
If you feel that this is something that we need to improve in the future, I recommend sending feedback to our software engineers. They'll consider adding this to our future product improvements. Here's how:
I've also included the following article if you want to track your bills in QBDT and personalize them based on the data you need:

Hey SirielJeaB,
Do you employees even bother to read the thread before inserting your insulting & puerile replies?
This entire thread is about the fact that there is no 'layout designer' button for the bill payment stub.
Absolutely nothing in your reply was helpful. You did not contribute anything new to the discussion. You simply repeated the same useless drivel that several other employees have already posted here. Many of us have already sent our feedback to the project engineers, with no result. Neither of the links you provided were relevant to the question at hand. Why did you even bother providing them?
If you want to be helpful, then get a senior project engineer to join this thread, so we can tell that person that we want this functionality, and we want it yesterday.
Not only DO I COMPLETELY AGREE what the above poster responded to you, but your response is also incorrect.
The invoice and purchase order templates DO SUPPORT THE LAYOUT DESIGNER.
THE BILL PAYMENT STUB DOES NOT SUPPORT THE LAYOUT DESIGNER WHICH IS THE ENTIRE REASON FOR THIS THREAD. HOLY SMOKES PEOPLE. This is NOT THAT HARD.
From the mouth of a QB Expert:
"Being able to use QuickBooks Desktop effectively for any task would be nice"
This made me laugh out loud. Ya think? We pay over 4 grand a year to use QBDT. Yes. It would be nice to use to effectively. And it's crazy that we can't and no one can help us.
We are running Enterprise DT 2023 - never had this issue previously but I did upgrade from 2021.
I do not believe they will fix this. It's easier to dumb everything down than make it better for those of us that actually know how to use the software in an accounting setting... Perhaps we should all go back to Peachtree...
Chiming in a year and a half after the original post to say yes, I also need this issue to be corrected. The stock version looks terrible, and it's ridiculous that it can't be customized like the other forms. I am using Enterprise 2023 and pay a LOT of money for it.
I also can't stand the QB employee or support "answers" on these threads. They are always useless and rarely address the actual issue being discussed. Get it together, Intuit!
Right? How do I get a job responding to people because I would be a heck of a lot better at it than literally every QuickBooks expert that has responded to this thread.
They do NOT care! They already have your $. Why would they do anything different. Intuit used to not be so bad but it seems they get worse and worse every year. And you want to talk about support??? You are lucky if you get someone that speaks enough English that you can understand them and even then it takes 2 hours to accomplish anything.
The new bill payment stub template now has columns that are in boxes and cuts off the Reference number. The Bill Payment Stub didn't used to be a "template." You could print the Bill Payment Stub and it would list all invoices being paid (not in this new boxed-in column form) and you could see the entire invoice (reference) number. Please change it back.
I have this kind of problem when I update to QB2023. some of our invoice too long and can showing full invoice information
I hate to say it, but responding to these threads is futile! QuickBooks makes WAY too much money to really care about this stuff.
I agree with you 100%. This is unacceptable.
How do I then Email that bill payment stub to the vendor?
Let me help share information about sending bill payment stubs, kbrooks2023.
In QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), we can only print and manually send a PDF of the payment stub. The option of being able to email isn't yet available at the moment.
To print a Bill payment:
I can see the importance of having this option for your business. With that, I suggest sending feedback to our product developers so they can review it and might consider adding this in our future updates.
Moreover, you can also print stubs in batches even if not after making a bill payment. Check out this article for your reference: Batch print forms in QuickBooks Desktop.
Let me know if there's anything else you need help with bill payment entries. I'm more than happy to provide additional assistance. Keep safe!
Yes,I have submitted the feedback. I know how to print them. No one can customize them and they awful!! Numbers get cut off, company info looks like garbage. Just put it back the way it was!
Ummmm what??!! You can most definitely email bill payment stubs!!
And there are TWO ways to do it!
The FIRST way is to email directly from the check payment: Choose email option and then bill payment stub.
The SECOND way is to choose the option to email stubs after you pay bills. This is the best option if you are emailing several at one time. Otherwise you have to email them all individually. If you miss emailing at this step there is no way to go back and choose them all. Another one of QBDT glitches that they won't fix.
Can I suggest a refresher course for the QB staff that responds to these threads? It's crazy to me that you guys can give out such false information!
theamconveyors, they aren't even understanding what we are asking because they have no clue how to use QBDT. It's SO FRUSTRATING!!!
I've long ago abandoned getting any meaningful help from the QuickBooks support 'team.' I'm more likely to find appropriate information via googling and third party sites. Unbelievable. How I wish there was some decent alternative software.
