Recreate corrupted Accountant's Copy

I appreciate you getting back to us, KeithCW.

To answer your question, yes, you'll need to remove the accountant's copy restrictions to recreate a new file.

However, before doing so, I'd suggest creating a backup copy of your data to save everything in your company file. Here's how:

  1. Go to the File menu, choose Back Up Company, then select Create Local Backup.
  2. Select Local Backup.
  3. In the Tell us where to save your backup copies field, select Browse and select the location in which to save the backup copy. Click OK.
  4. From the Create Backup window, specify whether to back up automatically, and select Options to set options for automatic backups.
  5. Tap New to set a backup schedule in the Schedule Backups dialog.
  6. Hit Finish.

Once done, you can now remove the restrictions by following the steps below:

  1. Click File at the top menu bar and choose Send Company File.
  2. Select Accountant's copy, then Client Activities.
  3. Tap to Remove Restrictions.
  4. Hit Yes, I want to remove the Accountant's Copy restrictions, then OK.

After that, you can follow the steps provided by my colleague above to recreate the accountant's copy or you can take a look at this article for the detailed instructions: Create an Accountant's Copy of your company file in QuickBooks Desktop. On the same link, you'll find a write-up on how to import the changes into the system.

Let me know the result of this troubleshooting in the comment below. I need to make sure this is resolved and you're able to recreate and send the copy. All the best!

Recreate corrupted Accountant's Copy

It's my pleasure to assist you today, KeithCW.

When sending an Accountant's Copy to your accountant, make sure the Accountant's Copy and QuickBooks Desktop versions are compatible. Both should use the same version or year gap.

Once you're done reviewing the above-mentioned, make sure to secure a backup of your company file for future purposes. Then, remove the accountant's copy restrictions to recreate a new file.

Once done, you can send another Accountant's Copy. Follow the steps below send Accountant's Copy:

  1. Go to the File menu and hover over Send Company File.
  2. Hover over Accountant's Copy and hover over Client Activities.
  3. Select Send to Accountant and then Next.
  4. Select Accountant's Copy and then Next.
  5. Enter the dividing date. Then select Next.
  6. Enter your and your accountant's email addresses.
  7. Create a file password for the file. Your accountant needs this to open it.
  8. When you're ready, select Send.

In case you encounter a specific error, this article outlines the different errors and their corresponding solutions: Resolve errors when creating or working on an accountant's copy.

Recreate corrupted Accountant's Copy

Thank you for the reply. Those are not the options I see.

When I go to File/Send Company File/Accountant's Copy I have these options:

     Send File... (greyed out)

     Send to Accountant... (greyed out)

     Import Accountant's Changes from Web...

     Import Accountant's Changes from File...

     Remove Restrictions...

Do I need to "Remove Restrictions"?

Again, I am running QB Desktop Pro 2019 (Prod num 589-041 R14_70).

Thank you,
dkh
