Reporting on estimates

I was creating a report to keep track of potential customers and activity. I customized a quickreport on a particular item, but although that item was used in estimates, it never showed estimates on the report. In all of my years in Quickbooks I have never noticed this phenomena. Is that something new? Am I doing something wrong or did I never need that before?

Change the Posting filter to Either.

Estimates, POs and SOs are Non-Posting. Now the Quick Report is going to show All Transaction Types.

Reporting on estimates

Good day, JonLee,

Thanks for getting in touch with us today. I can share some insights with the Item Quick Report.

Currently, we're unable to add estimates on the Item Quick Report. As an option, you can generate a Custom Transaction Detail report separately to view your estimates alongside with the items used on the transaction. Let me guide you on how to do that:

  1. Go to the Reports tab and select Custom Reports.
  2. Choose Transaction Detail.
  3. Click the Customize Report button.
  4. Enter the report date in the From and To fields.
  5. Scroll down to the Columns section and mark Item.
  6. Go to the Filters tab.
  7. Select Transaction Type from the filters. Select Estimate from the drop-down. (See screenshoot.)

  8. Look for Posting Status filter and select Non-posting. (See screenshot.)

  9. Click OK.

That should do it, JonLee. I can see how this preference can be beneficial to help your business so I'd encourage you to send a suggestion to our developers. For them to account your request, please follow the steps below:

  1. Click the Help tab.
  2. Scroll down to Send Feedback Online.
  3. Select Product Suggestion.
  4. Choose Product Suggestion for the Type of Feedback.
  5. Product Area is optional.
  6. Enter your suggestion.
  7. Click Send Feedback.

Your request goes directly to our engineers who consider feedback for future QuickBooks enhancements.

Please feel free to let me know if you need further assistance. I'm always here to help you get your work done. Have a good day!

What is that specific Item Type, and which account(s) did you link it to, and how do you list it on estimates?

It was a non inventory item used on an estimate.

the benefits of running reports on estimates?

If a customer is tax-exempt, you can change in the invoice screen?

  1. If you convert an estimate to an invoice, can you change the criteria (as in prices or items)?
  2. You have to set the state comptroller as a vendor? (For Sales Tax)
  3. You can just pay sales tax through the vendor system, like a normal invoice or bill?
  4. If you don’t close the books yourself, how often does Quickbooks do it?
  5. If you receive multiple checks at once, but record them into the same account at the same time, how do you deposit them?
  6. You have a Beanie Babies distribution company.  What could be a COGS (cost of goods sold)?
