I was creating a report to keep track of potential customers and activity. I customized a quickreport on a particular item, but although that item was used in estimates, it never showed estimates on the report. In all of my years in Quickbooks I have never noticed this phenomena. Is that something new? Am I doing something wrong or did I never need that before?

Change the Posting filter to Either.
Estimates, POs and SOs are Non-Posting. Now the Quick Report is going to show All Transaction Types.

Currently, we're unable to add estimates on the Item Quick Report. As an option, you can generate a Custom Transaction Detail report separately to view your estimates alongside with the items used on the transaction. Let me guide you on how to do that:

What is that specific Item Type, and which account(s) did you link it to, and how do you list it on estimates?
It was a non inventory item used on an estimate.

Yes, you can change it to the invoice screen. Please see screenshot below:
Yes, you can change it. You'll be prompted to make necessary updates.

Yes, you can pay sales tax within QuickBooks for recording purposes. QuickBooks closes your books at the end of every financial year.
