I have request that please have a option to view and export trial balance where For Balance sheet items balances are as on date and for Profit and loss items its activity amount for the selected period.
There's already trial balance but it doesn't serves my purpose and I believe many people require Monthly TB for viewing/further uses and auditing purposes.
Please, I request everyone to cheer if you support and QB team to consider this. The current TB is alright for YTD but its not all that is required.
Description of Issue:
If I have to Make a monthly TB I have export TB, Export PL. Clear PL items then decide what are PL items and then decide whats debit and whats credit and if something is negative then I have to put is in other side. Its a time consuming task, which should be possible by few clicks and download.
I am not trying to blame or sound rude but I am having a trouble and I need you to help me. Hope you understand. Thanks.

Thank you so much. I am happy that you forwarded the suggestion.
I have the same issue with this as well - I should be able to run a monthly trial balance if this is a true Accounting software.
Also note that what is very deceptive is that you can select a one month period of time in the date range section but then it still shows the year to date amount (and not the monthly one). You have to check the numbers to make this determination.
Yes, was this problem ever solved? I am having the same issue currently trying to run monthly trial balances which take into account only specific date ranges
Hello there, @accountant231.
At this time, there's not a feature that's been put in place yet for Monthly Trial Balance Report. I'm going to submit feedback for you to our Product Development Team about your concern.
If you have additional questions or concerns, please don't hesitate and reach back out! You're always welcomed to come back to this thread for updates. Have a beautiful day.
I need this monthly TB option as well. It would help me greatly in my monthly reporting. Please, please consider this as an option in the reporting module
I can really use monthly reporting for TB as well.
I really need this feature as well. I would highly recommend making this a priority. It would also be nice to be able to run a trial balance by class.
Thanks,
I can really use monthly reporting for TB as well.
Has a custom period trial balance report feature been added yet??
Thank you for joining the thread, @Johan Spoor.
We don't receive any updates from our engineering team about this feature request. Rest assured that they never stop working to develop QuickBooks and deliver the best experiences for all users. Hopefully, this will be included in the next updates. At this time, you can visit our blog to stay current with the latest QuickBooks news and updates.

Keep in touch with me if you still need more help with this. I'll be here. Have a great weekend.
I recently received an email that seemed to imply that you now have a monthly trial balance feature; however, when I go in and put in the current month, so 8/1/20 - 8/31/20, the P & L portion of the trial balance still has the year to date total, not the total for the month. Can you please advise whether this is actually available and I am running the report incorrectly or whether this has not yet been resolved?
Thanks,
Hi ashleyspitzer.
Thanks for dropping by the Community this evening. I'm happy to show you how to run the P&L report for an individual month period. Follow these steps:
From there you can view the P&L report for the month desired. If you have any other questions, feel free to post here anytime.
I am not trying to run a P & L report by month, I am trying to run a trial balance by month.
When you do the following:
1. Click Reports.
2. Chose the Trial Balance Report.
3. Click the first drop-down arrow that says this year to date and change it to last month.
4. Run Report.
The portion of the trial balance that reflects the P&L does not reflect last month, it reflects the year to date. I am requesting that you make it possible to run a Trial Balance report that actually reflects the totals of the period selected. It is very misleading to be able to select last month or a customized period, but not have the report provide you the date for that period of time. Its actually useless. Most accountants use trial balances to consolidate financials and to perform month end closing duties, so this is a feature that is very much needed.
Thanks,
Neither QuickBooks Desktop nor QBO can produce a Trial Balance that separates out the expenses by class name or with a "period net change." They print "as of" only.
The Trial Balance is not in one column where Debits are Positive and Credits are Negative.
The account numbers are embedded with the account name.
This makes data analysis clunky and time-consuming.
FOR DESKTOP:
I am an accountant who wrote a utility called TBX Trial Balance Exporter back in 2004, which gives you these options. I don't see any sign that the T/B will be changed in Desktop. Since Intuit constantly improves QBO, I will not invest in developing a QBO application.
Here is a link to the QuickBooks Desktop App page:
https://desktop.apps.com/apps/167772/tbx-trial-balance-exporter#!overview
When will this feature be added to QBO?
Thanks for bringing this one to our attention, anria.
At this time, there's no specific period of time when the monthly Trial Balance report will be added on QuickBooks Online (QBO). We recommend submitting product suggestions to our engineers about this one by following these steps:
Your feedback goes to our Product Development team to help improve your experience in QBO. Just go through the QuickBooks Online Feature Requests website to track feature requests. You'll want to check for a third-party application that can help you customize the report to a monthly period. You can check out the apps that are compatible with QuickBooks at this link: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/app/apps/home/. We can also do it in QBO by following the steps below:
Any questions about integrating the app into your Online account are best handled by the third-party app provider. To keep updated with any upcoming QuickBooks updates and enhancements, feel free to visit these blogs:
I'm just one post away if you need a hand with exporting your reports or any QBO related. I'll be here to ensure your success. Have a great day ahead.
Has this reported been created? It is so silly that it shows only YTD instead of the monthly TB. I need this desperately for my forecast.
Hi there, @jennygeorge.
I can see how it would greatly help you with your monthly reporting. Rest assured that I'll relay this message to our team in concern here on my end to make this a priority.
You can also share your thoughts and ideas through your account. Our product development team reviews all the feedback we receive to ensure we’re meeting the needs of our customers.

This clearly could not have been a priority as this issue has been present for 3 years now. For those of us accountants who have to do monthly management reports it is extremely inconvenient to have to manually back out transactions just to extract the current month's trial balance. This is one of the reasons why I don't recommend Quickbooks online to any of my clients.
I am confused as to why this post is marked "solved" when the issue is still present in 2022? Please explain this.
This oversight is really obnoxious. This accounting software does not produce a true trial balance for an accounting period. What are the engineers working on over there at Intuit. This problem should've been solved years ago. Your software officially outputs useless data for a mission critical accounting report.
This oversight is obnoxious. How do you guys call this accounting software if you can't even put out a real trial balance?? This should have been rectified eons ago by the Intuit engineers. How in the heck is this not a priority for you?? Your report needs to be manually manipulated every accounting period to produce a standard accounting reporting need. Stupid and silly.
Hey @mhh2
We have built a tool to transform such reports as per requirement for further analysis. If you have a use case, we can get on a call and you can use our tool.
