I often use the advance search function to find an invoice by selecting "PO Number" under the search Invoices. Today when I was trying to search, I found that the "PO Number" choice is no longer available. Why was this removed? This is a necessary option for me.
Hello there, @Big Time Toys.
At this time, searching using the PO number is unavailable in QuickBooks Online (QBO). You'll need to use the invoice number to view the invoice.
Here's how:

Don't hesitate to leave a comment below if there's anything else I can help you with QuickBooks. I'm always around to help ensure your success.
Thank you, but this is basically useless for me. I need to be able to search by the PO number in order to find out the invoice number. This option was available until just a short time ago. I use this almost every day. Why have they suddenly taken this option away?
Thanks for following up with us, @Big Time Toys.
I'm going to leave feedback to our Product Development Team for them to further review and consider making this an option again in QuickBooks Online.
For now, you can follow our Firm Of The Future website to receive future updates with QuickBooks products.
If you have any more questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to comment below. Have a safe and productive weekend ahead!
We are having the same issue. We could search by our client file number and now we can't. That is the only way we can find invoices most of the time. We need this option added back asap!! Why was this taken away?
Hello there, @kswedock.
I know how beneficial to search for a customer's Purchase Order number is to your business. I'll take note of this and personally share feedback with our product developers about this one.
While we don't have a specific time frame as to when the new features will roll out, you'll want to visit our QuickBooks Blog page for reference on what's new and what's coming in QuickBooks.
If you're referring to something else, any additional details would be great to further assist you. Thanks in advance!
It is super inconvenient to not have an option to do a P.O. Search. I think it was a huge mistake taking it out and I hope I see an update soon.
Has this issue been resolved? Has anyone looked into it? We use Enterprise Solution Desktop version and this is a HUGE issue for us. We use this feature regularly to determine funds left on the customer PO so we know how much they can purchase against it.
I know how inconvenient it was not to be able to search your customer PO, Ana Springer.
For now, we don't have a specific time frame as to when this feature is available again in QuickBooks Desktop. Rest assured that we make sure that your product meets your needs.
In the meantime, I encourage checking out the Firm of the Future website to learn more product improvements and tips about managing your business.
Your patience and understanding are much appreciated.
This is really inconvenient as I need to search the P.O. number to see if the client has been invoiced. I may have to look for another invoicing company
Has this issue been corrected yet? It's crazy that there's no field to enter a customer PO#.
Hi there, HartwellHardwoods.
I know the importance of having this kind of feature. As of this moment, we don't have a specific time frame as to when this be implemented. I'll make sure to tap this into our developer's team. Our product engineers will continue to make improvements to the product, and this preference might be available in the future to the best interest of our customers.
You may want to consider visiting our QuickBooks Blog. From there, you can see the future developments and the latest news about QuickBooks and what our Product Care Team is working on.
You're always welcome to post some more of your concerns here in the Community. I'd be happy to attend your next posts. Stay safe!
Hi there,
We really, really need this feature as well. We literally do 1000s of POs over our peak season and it is a complete nightmare to not have the ability to look up a PO...that means we also have 1000s of invoices to sift through for a vendor, so not knowing the corresponding invoice number is also very problematic.
Who can we talk to that has a little more pull in this? I'm a ProAdvisor and I've learned to adapt to QBO's quirks, but this is making me want to switch to another product in the coming months. Also, the limitations of reporting to only open POs is not efficient either, as is limiting access in reports to columns we are trying to utilize within POs to convey all the information such as shipping address makes spotting anomalies and missing items more quickly.
I realize this issue is bigger than what you alone can solve. Thanks for doing your best to be a squeaky wheel!
We're taking notes of your feedback and suggestions, @bagette25.
I can see that the option to search for a customer's PO number could help you work seamlessly and swiftly in QuickBooks Online. But I want to let you know that our product engineers are considering all suggestions based on the number of requests and their impacts on the user interface before they're rolled out.
At this time, you can directly send feedback to our product engineers by going to the Gear icon, then selecting Feedback. Also, include the PO report limitations on your feedback. This way, they can review your suggestion and consider it in a future update.
Also, you can visit our blog site so you'll be able to get the latest news about QuickBooks and what our Product Care Team is working on.
Please touch base with me here for all of your QuickBooks needs, I'm always happy to help. Thanks for dropping by.
This used to be a feature in prior versions, but stopped working in when we upgraded to the 2019 version.
There are two fields in the search function that you can put in the PO number, but neither returns any results, so it must have been disabled.
This reply was not helpful. I don't have a gear icon, as I use a Desktop version of Quickbooks Enterprise. Can you provide a link instead?
Thanks for joining us here, Ana Springer.
The reason why you don't see a Gear icon is that it is for QuickBooks Online.
I understand that you really need this feature. Please follow these steps on how to submit feedback in QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise:
All new features and latest news will be published on our blog. If you need more articles and references in managing your business, please check this site: QBDT All Articles.
I'll be here if you have other concerns. Please keep your posts coming. Take care!
Over a year a still no way to search by Customer's PO. PLEEEEze fix this.
Sooo it’s been years now since this thread began in regards to no PO search function. How is this possible? We just got quickbooks but wondering if other programs that have this function because it’s most important for our company as well.
I can see the need to have this function. I'll guide you on how you can submit this request, Meghan.
If you remember the purchase order number created in QuickBooks Online (QBO), you can type the number using the Advanced Search option. This will show you a list of transactions including the Purchase Order. I've added a screenshot for your visual guide:
I also encourage you to send feedback to let our product team know how this is useful for the business. To do so, follow the steps outlined below:
1. Go to the Gear icon, then select Feedback.
2. Enter your comments or product suggestions. Then click Next to submit feedback.
This goes to our Product Development team to help improve your experience in QuickBooks Online. You can track feature requests through the QuickBooks Online Feature Requests website.
In addition, after your PO is converted to an invoice, you can start to create personalized and professional-looking invoices for your customers. To know more about how you can change its appearance, check out this article for more details: Customize Invoices, Estimates, and Sales Receipts in QuickBooks Online.
